00:00Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:03This weekend promises more of the same
00:05in terms of it'll be dry for the vast majority,
00:08thanks to high pressure.
00:10But a shift in that high pressure
00:12does mean that many of us will see some sunnier skies.
00:16And it will also be turning warmer, especially
00:18as we head into next week.
00:21Here is that high pressure system
00:22that feels like it's been controlling our weather
00:25for a number of months.
00:26Certainly has been for several days.
00:28It is drifting slowly eastwards.
00:31And that is that subtle shift.
00:33But for the time being, it is still
00:34allowing the breeze to come in from the North Sea.
00:37And so for the time being, we are still
00:39feeding in a lot of cloud across eastern parts.
00:42And that cloud will be thick enough, again,
00:44through the night for a little bit of drizzly rain
00:46here and there.
00:47For the vast majority, though, it will stay dry.
00:49The cloud will spread further westwards.
00:51But parts of the southwest, western Scotland,
00:54will keep clearer skies.
00:55And where we do, temperatures could, in rural spots,
00:58drop down to single figures.
00:59But most towns and cities staying in double digits.
01:01Many staying in the teens.
01:03On to the details for Saturday.
01:05And it's another gloom fest early on,
01:07certainly for much of central and eastern England
01:09and eastern Scotland.
01:11Still a bit of drizzly rain here and there as well.
01:13So not completely dry.
01:15That should ease off.
01:16And we'll see a few more breaks developing in the cloud.
01:19Sunny spells for much of the day, I fancy,
01:21for south Wales, southwest England,
01:23some brightness across the southeast.
01:25And again, the west coast of Scotland,
01:27parts of the Highlands, probably also
01:28seeing some sunshine.
01:30And it's possible, too, for Northern Ireland.
01:32It's across central and eastern areas
01:33where most will just stay cloudy all day.
01:37And as a result, temperatures again are
01:39going to struggle a little bit.
01:40We're looking at mid, maybe high teens.
01:42Perhaps feeling a bit warmer than it did through Friday.
01:45Certainly when the sun pops out for the south
01:47and across western Scotland, we should reach
01:4920 Celsius in a few places.
01:52During Saturday evening, we'll see maybe one or two changes.
01:56There is the threat, just a small chance of one or two
01:59showers for the northwest, perhaps even
02:01close to the southeast of England and the Channel Isles.
02:03But most will stay dry.
02:04But the cloud, instead of returning,
02:06kind of melts away a little bit more over Saturday night,
02:09which should allow a brighter day across much
02:12of the country on Sunday.
02:14Still a fair bit of cloud, certainly initially
02:16across these eastern areas.
02:18But here, after what's been a very gloomy spell,
02:20it does look a bit brighter, certainly by Sunday afternoon.
02:24We'll also see a change in the northwest
02:25with thickening cloud here and some patchy rain
02:27heading towards Northern Ireland and western Scotland
02:30for the second half of the day.
02:32But otherwise, a dry day for most on Sunday
02:35and a bit more sunshine and a bit more warmth.
02:38Temperatures just ticking up a little bit,
02:40more widely over 20 Celsius on Sunday.
02:43With the help of a bit more sunshine,
02:44we could get to 23, 24, possibly even 25 Celsius.
02:48It's a bit cooler in the far northwest
02:50where there will be that thicker cloud.
02:51That is from a developing weather front.
02:53The high pressure is still nearby.
02:55But as it slips away further eastwards through Sunday
02:58and into Monday, it allows that weather front in.
03:00But it also starts to allow some warmer air
03:04to spread up from the south.
03:07Now, that front will push southwards,
03:09then kind of fizzle out.
03:10So some rain on Sunday night and some areas
03:13staying cloudy on Monday.
03:14But that warmth is drifting north
03:16and will spread further north, I suspect, on Tuesday.
03:19So yes, higher temperatures on the way through the weekend
03:23and more particularly into next week.
03:26Many of us will see some September sunshine,
03:28at least for a time.
