00:00Welcome to your national weather update with me Alex Deakin at the Met Office.
00:04This morning we have issued an extreme heat warning, an amber warning covering
00:07large parts of England and Wales. This is from Thursday until Sunday. The
00:12temperatures won't be as high as they were in July but the extended nature of
00:17this heatwave could cause some disruption. More details on the warning
00:21check out the app or the website. Let's take a look at Tuesday because hot and
00:26sunny pretty much sums it up. Yes there will be a fair bit of cloud across
00:28northern Scotland again but even here it's drier than yesterday, maybe just a
00:32few showers at times over the Northern Isles and the Western Isles. Quite windy
00:35actually in the far northwest, a bit of a breeze blowing across the eastern parts
00:39of Kent but otherwise the winds fairly light in the sunshine. Temperatures
00:43higher than yesterday's mid-20s to the high 20s across the north, high 20s to
00:49the low 30s further south. A balmy summer's evening then Tuesday evening
00:53again clear skies foremost, a bit of wispy cloud here and there. Thicker cloud
00:57across northern Scotland where it will stay fairly windy, still a chance of one
01:00or two light showers here but otherwise dry and clear, maybe a bit of mist and
01:04low cloud forming across eastern England. A pretty warm night 14-15 degrees
01:09temperatures will get higher through the nights to come during the rest of this
01:14week. And Wednesday's temperatures will be higher than Tuesday's as well with
01:18another largely sunny day. Any early morning mist and fog will clear away
01:22quite rapidly across the east, staying fairly cloudy still across the far
01:26northwest of Scotland but even here I think Orkney, Caithness, Sutherland seeing
01:30some good spells of sunshine and temperatures could get up to 20 Celsius
01:34in Orkney. Certainly high 20s possible across eastern Scotland, eastern parts of
01:39Northern Ireland mid to maybe high 20s and certainly for the bulk of England
01:43and Wales high 20s low 30s probably topping out 31 across parts of the south
01:48on Wednesday. Again some of the beaches will be a little cooler and temperatures
01:52quite as high across parts of eastern England. A fine summer's evening again on
01:58Wednesday evening again staying very warm well into the evening so it will be
02:03becoming increasingly uncomfortable for getting to sleep. Notice there is more
02:07cloud and patchy rain across the northwest of Scotland that's from this
02:10weather front that's trying to make in roads but the high pressure is holding
02:13on. A subtle shift though later this week the high moves further east that will
02:18allow a bit more of an easterly breeze to pick up which is why eastern areas
02:21will be a little cooler on Wednesday and Thursday but as that high shifts
02:26further during Friday and Saturday that allows the UK to tap into a bit more
02:31heat from the south so temperatures will rise a little bit more during Friday and
02:36Saturday more likely into the low to mid 30s across the south and those kind of
02:42temperatures could persist in some areas into Sunday hence why we have that
02:47warning in place. During Sunday however low pressure starts to bring the threat
02:53of showers and thundery downpours welcome downpours of course across parts of the
02:58south and east during the course of Sunday but some uncertainty about the
03:03details of that but it does look as if it will turn cooler with more showers as
03:07we go into next week. Before that however yes lots of hot and sunny weather to
03:13come make sure you keep up to date with the latest weather warnings best way to
03:17do that of course is to be following the Met Office across social media.
