9 March - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00The severe weather will be easing during Friday but we do still have weather
00:05warnings in place. Snow, amber weather warnings during Thursday night across
00:11Northern Ireland, Northern England and parts of Wales as well. The snow building
00:16up in areas, the strong winds blowing that snow around as well making for
00:20blizzards and some pretty atrocious traveling conditions as well. Power
00:25issues, local communities potentially being cut off as well but as I said it
00:30should be easing somewhat during Friday. The snow though still falling through
00:34Thursday night accompanied by those gusty winds. The winds also picking up in
00:38the southwest with some heavy bursts of rain likely here. Still some snow across
00:42the Midlands, Northern England, parts of southern Scotland, pepping up across
00:46Northern Ireland as well. Close to coast it'll mostly be rain but particularly
00:51over those higher parts of Northern England and North Wales the snow
00:54continuing to build up into the morning. The winds continuing to strengthen in
00:59some areas, snow showers in northern Scotland making things quite icy. It won't
01:03be quite as cold as recent nights but still temperatures well below freezing
01:07across northern Scotland. In the south many places staying above freezing
01:11because we've got the milder air here but it's going to get windy. The winds
01:14strengthening on Friday morning across the west coast of Wales and southwest
01:18England. A very very blustery Friday morning here. Those winds will slowly
01:23ease through the day. The snow will be easing across Northern Ireland, Northern
01:26England and Scotland during the morning but even into the afternoon some snow
01:30showers are likely across parts of eastern England and some further
01:34flurries could affect parts of the East Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast
01:37until it does tend to ease off during the afternoon. Many places through Friday
01:42afternoon fine, bright and sunny and further snow showers coming in across
01:46northern Scotland. So again potentially icy here. After a milder day in the south
01:52on Thursday will be a colder day. Temperatures 6 or 7 Celsius across the
01:57south and further north 4 or 5. Quite a significant wind chill on some of these
02:01North Sea coasts and across northern parts of Scotland where ice is likely to
02:05be a hazard as things freeze up once more on Friday night. For most though
02:10Friday night's just going to be cold and clear. A very frosty start to the
02:16weekends but for many it'll be a sunny start to Saturday as well. A hard frost
02:21and potentially some ice especially where we've got any snow lying on the
02:24ground. And then we look west as another weather system comes in. This is
02:27going to be bringing mostly rain across southwest England but some hill snow in
02:31South Wales and some hill snow across parts of Northern Ireland late in the
02:35day. But for many central and eastern parts Saturday looks dry and bright with
02:40some sunshine. However it won't last. This line of rain will be moving its way
02:44northwards and hitting the colder air. Temperatures here 4, 5, 6 degrees. A
02:48chilly day for most on Saturday. But again milder air is coming into the
02:52southwest. Double digits likely here late on. But this line of rain as I said
02:56continuing to track its way in during the course of Saturday. It's a weather
03:00front which will again be bumping up against the colder air. So we're bringing
03:05the moisture hitting the cold air. The potential for some snow. As I said across
03:08Wales and Northern Ireland mostly over the hills. But across northern England
03:12and Scotland we could see some heavy snow for a time. Probably won't last all
03:16that long on Saturday night and into the first part of Sunday. So we have
03:20another Met Office warning in place for that. There are numerous warnings in
03:25place so make sure you do keep up to date with the very latest. Best way to do
03:28that through our app and of course through our website and of course the
03:32very latest right across social media.
