00:00Please keep up to date with the latest weather warnings.
00:03We have a number of yellow warnings
00:04in place for snow and ice covering the rest of this week.
00:08Let's try and break it down, see what's going on.
00:10Obviously, it's turned cold thanks to northerly winds.
00:12So pretty much the whole map is now blue.
00:14We're all in the cold air.
00:15But notice the milder air isn't too far away from the south.
00:19And that is tied into a couple of weather fronts
00:21that will introduce some moisture.
00:23This one just skirting with the south through Tuesday evening
00:27could provide some sleet and snow
00:29where that moisture hits the cold air.
00:30And then we potentially have another set of weather fronts,
00:33another little low, just bringing back
00:35that moisture into the southwest during Wednesday evening.
00:38So perhaps two areas to keep an eye on,
00:41potentially bringing some snow in the south on Wednesday.
00:44Before then, we still have snow showers
00:46across northern Scotland during Tuesday night.
00:49Could turn icy here.
00:50Could turn icy across Northern Ireland as well.
00:53A warning in place here.
00:54And the warning in the south for sleet and snow and ice
00:57across southern counties where we'll
01:00see that first weather front just moving in.
01:02So perhaps waking up to a covering in the south
01:04first thing in the morning.
01:06Temperature is going to drop well below freezing west.
01:08Skies stay clear, which they will for most places.
01:10Minus 5, minus 6 in towns and cities.
01:13Maybe as low as minus 15 through some rural parts
01:16across Scotland.
01:17So a very cold start to Wednesday.
01:19Quite a great wet day across the south with sleet and snow
01:23still coming in here.
01:24We could see a centimetre or two be quite patchy
01:26across the south during Wednesday.
01:29The sleet and snow may well ease for a time
01:30across the southeast.
01:31But then we start to look down to the southwest
01:33as a next push, that next little area of low pressure
01:36perhaps increases the snow later in the day
01:39across the southwest initially.
01:40But maybe into parts of South Wales
01:42during the afternoon and evening.
01:43Perhaps into parts of the south midlands.
01:45Some uncertainty about the exact northward extents.
01:48But we could see some significant snow
01:50during Wednesday across the south.
01:53The snow showers easing in northern Scotland.
01:55So actually, for northern England, northern Ireland,
01:57most of Scotland, a sparkling day of winter sunshine.
02:01Even though it's a meteorological spring,
02:02it's going to feel cold, 3, 4 degrees at best.
02:05But at least the winds are easing.
02:07The winds, though, are likely to be picking up in the southwest
02:10as this wet weather comes in.
02:12Now, that may introduce a bit more
02:14in the way of the warmer air.
02:15So we may see the snow turning back to rain.
02:17But still the potential during Wednesday evening,
02:20parts of southwest England, south Wales, the south midlands,
02:23and into the southeast of England
02:25could get another dose of snow.
02:27We're talking perhaps 3 to 5 centimetres of snow,
02:30maybe 10 centimetres on some hills.
02:32But not everywhere in this warning zone we'll see that.
02:36That's just the area that could see those amounts.
02:38Potentially disruptive snowfall on some major routes
02:42through the evening rush hour.
02:43So that is one area of concern.
02:46As that area of low pressure slips away
02:48during Wednesday night, then we look out west
02:50as another low comes in.
02:52Again, bringing the moisture to hit the cold air.
02:55Where these weather fronts arrive,
02:56likely to see further snow on Thursday and then into Friday.
03:00Again, some uncertainty about how far north, how far south
03:03these weather fronts are.
03:04But as they bring that moisture, likely to dump fresh snow.
03:07North Wales, north midlands, northern England, Scotland,
03:11and Northern Ireland.
03:12We have warning in place here for that snowfall.
03:16Thursday may not reach parts of Scotland until Friday.
03:19But it could be significant.
03:21Again, 3 to 5 centimetres quite widely in this zone.
03:25And much more on hills.
03:26We're talking potentially 15 centimetres even at low levels.
03:29And then on some hills, 20, perhaps 30, maybe even
03:3240 centimetres on some Scottish hills.
03:35Notice the isobar squeezing together as well.
03:37So that low is also going to bring strong winds.
03:39That combination of gusty winds and snowfall means blizzards.
03:43So potentially treacherous driving conditions
03:46as that weather system comes in.
03:48This is where we're most likely to see it on Thursday morning.
03:50Bringing snow to parts of the midlands, Wales,
03:53spreading into northern England and parts of Northern Ireland
03:56during the day on Thursday.
03:58Most of the day across much of Scotland,
04:00fine and sunny once more.
04:01But the winds will be picking up maybe later on.
04:03We'll start to see that pushing into parts of southern Scotland.
04:06Further south, things are turning milder.
04:08So there'll be outbreaks of rain mostly with temperatures
04:11perhaps late on getting up to double figures.
04:13But for much of the country, it will
04:15be another cold feeling day, particularly
04:17where the snow is falling and those winds
04:19are starting to increase.
04:21A potential for some significant disruption
04:23from that weather system as it comes in during Thursday
04:26and lingering into Friday.
04:28Please do keep up to date with the weather warnings.
04:31Constantly being monitored and updated.
