00:00Welcome to your national weather updates. It is going to be a wintry week of
00:05weather and we have a number of Met Office warnings in place. The snow
00:09showers coming in you can see them here to the north of the UK. The northerly
00:12winds setting in these showers and the radar are of snow across northern
00:16Scotland. Further south still of rain through the rest of today but turning
00:20increasingly wintry over parts of north-east England and south-east
00:23Scotland. Things may well be turning icy here. Further south as I said mostly
00:28outbreaks of rain across Wales, the Midlands and southern England. But it
00:32feels cold wherever you are. You get a bit of sunshine this afternoon over
00:35southern Scotland, Northern Ireland. Six or seven Celsius in northern Scotland.
00:39Temperature only two or three degrees. Add on the wind and it feels a lot
00:43colder than that. And the cold air will continue to flush southwards as we go
00:48through the night. So outbreaks of rain initially over Wales, the Midlands and
00:52southern England. But we could start to see some sleet and snow here through the
00:56night which may well turn things here quite icy. And snow and hail showers
01:00coming into Northern Ireland also. So again the potential for some very
01:04slippery surfaces and the showers continuing over northern Scotland. A few
01:07centimetres building up here maybe more than that over the hills. And some snow
01:12showers just getting into north-east England also. So again the potential for
01:16things to be icy as temperatures tumble away. In the far south just about staying
01:20above freezing here. But the colder air elsewhere means frosts in towns and
01:25cities well below freezing over northern England and southern Scotland.
01:29And some rural spots could get to minus 10 in parts of Scotland. So potentially
01:33very icy first thing in the morning. And as we go through the day this outbreaks
01:38of rain with some snow mixed in across parts of the south. And only slowly be
01:43easing as we go through the day. So quite a wet cold day in the south with that
01:47rain sleet snow mixture coming in. Snow showers for northern Scotland and a few
01:53for north-east England. But plenty of sunshine actually for northern Ireland,
01:56north Wales, north-west England and much of southern Scotland where it will stay
02:01largely dry and fine. But it is going to be cold. The winds perhaps not quite as
02:05strong in some areas. But still a significant wind chill in northern
02:08Scotland with temperatures only two or three Celsius. And a cold feeling day in
02:12the south. Five or six. A damp day as well. So with some snow still falling in
02:18places into the afternoon. That'll tend to ease off a little bit it looks like
02:22as we go through the evening time. Again a hard frost forming rapidly. Again
02:26things going to be icy. More snow showers coming into the north. And then eyes down
02:29to the southwest. Because here more wet weather pushing in. Still a bit of
02:34uncertainty about how far north that gets. But it is likely to hit that colder
02:38air. And so as these weather fronts come in and just ripple and wriggle across
02:42parts of the south during Wednesday. The potential for further heavy snow here. A
02:47bit of uncertainty. It's an area of low pressure. These weather fronts could be a
02:50little further north. They could be a little further south. But that has the
02:53potential. Because the cold air is still sitting here. Where that warm air hits.
02:58That's where we are likely to see some snow. Of course parts of South Wales.
03:02Southern England. Maybe into the Midlands on Wednesday. So that is the next area.
03:07We're keeping a close eye on through the middle part of the week. As that pulls
03:10away during Wednesday. Then we look out west. There's another low. But this one's
03:15further north. That is going to bring some moisture off the Atlantic. And again
03:18where it hits the cold air. Some snow is likely. Northern England. Northern Ireland.
03:23And parts of Scotland during Thursday and Friday. So plenty of wintry weather
03:28to come through this week. Not just snow. But there's winds strengthening around
03:31this area of low pressure as well. So lots going on through this week. There
03:36are weather warnings in place. Make sure you stay up to date. We'll have a full
03:40detailed week ahead forecast on our YouTube channel. So make sure you hit
