00:00Big contrast with the weather from north to south on Tuesday with the cold air
00:04across the far north, pretty mild conditions in the south. The mild air
00:08lasts for a little longer but the cold air will win out eventually. Here's the
00:12bigger picture tucked into these weather fronts, the mild air sitting across most
00:16of the land but notice the northeast poking out there and that's where we've
00:20got the snow. It's been falling for much of the day and will continue into the
00:23evening for Aberdeenshire, Moray, Caithness and Sutherland. A few more centimetres of
00:27snow likely even at low levels could cause some disruption certainly on some
00:31of the higher routes. Turning back to rain before pushing northwards at a wet
00:35end to the night across Orkney with a gusty easterly wind here. Elsewhere we've
00:40mostly got westerly winds bringing rain showers and some clearer spells. It won't
00:44be particularly chilly with most of us still with the mild air temperatures
00:48holding up at 7, 8, 9 degrees Celsius. It will turn quite cold though once the wet
00:53weather clears from Aberdeenshire so it could just turn a little icy across
00:56parts of northern Scotland later in the night first thing on Wednesday morning. A
01:00wet day to come for Orkney and a windy day as well. Elsewhere it'll be more of a
01:04mixture of sunshine and showers. I think all areas likely to see some showers but
01:10they will tend to zip through on the wind so it won't rain all day. There'll
01:13be some spells of sunshine particularly across South Wales and the Midlands come
01:18the afternoon. The gusty winds though will continue to strengthen and they'll
01:22bring out a colder feel. We may still just about squeak up into the teens
01:27across the south maybe 15 across the southeast but it won't feel as mild as
01:32Tuesday and that wind will make it feel a little bit colder than these numbers
01:36would suggest. And the winds will strengthen further during Wednesday
01:40evening across Northern Ireland, West and Scotland. Could get very very windy for a
01:44time overnight into Thursday and it turns blustery everywhere as we go into
01:48Thursday. Some clearer skies will again allow a frost and the wet weather
01:53turning back to snow across northern Scotland initially over hills but again
01:57down to low levels during Thursday. There could be further accumulations
02:01particularly for Aberdeenshire but some wintriness, some sleet and hail in the
02:05showers over southern Scotland and over the hills of northern England. Perhaps
02:09much of the south looking dry on Thursday but even with some sunshine it
02:14is going to be cold. Look where the winds are coming from straight down from the
02:18north so for the vast majority single figures maybe double digits across the
02:23south for a time but add on the wind and it feels much colder barely feeling much
02:30above freezing across large parts of northern Britain. So a cold bitter wind
02:35picking up through Wednesday and into Thursday staying pretty chilly into
02:39Friday as well. Does look calm and dry and bright for most of us on Saturday.
