00:00Fog and frost for some, wet and windy for others.
00:04The weather alliterations are coming thick and fast
00:07over the next 24 hours.
00:09Let's deal first with the fog and frost occurring
00:12across the south as we go through Tuesday night
00:15and into Wednesday morning.
00:16Temperatures dropping well below freezing pretty rapidly,
00:18and then the fog thickening up across parts
00:21of the Midlands, Wales, southern England, and East Anglia.
00:23Dense patches of fog that will stick around
00:26through Wednesday morning's rush hour.
00:28Not so foggy or so frosty further north.
00:30More cloud and more breeze here.
00:32Still some pockets of temperatures
00:35dropping below freezing possible,
00:36but certainly most towns and cities
00:38staying a few degrees above freezing,
00:39whereas in the south, minus two, minus three in urban areas,
00:42minus five, minus six in the countryside.
00:45So it will be a frosty start,
00:47and don't forget that fog in the morning as well.
00:50As I say, likely to linger through the rush hour,
00:52and in fact for much of the morning in some spots.
00:55Meanwhile, further north, it's all about the winds
00:57picking up across Western Scotland,
00:59getting very, very blustery indeed through the day.
01:01We have a Met Office yellow warning in place here,
01:04and then later on, a band of rain moves in,
01:07and as that band of rain moves in,
01:08the winds could just go up a notch as well.
01:11Got gusts of 65 to 70 miles an hour,
01:14and as that rain moves in,
01:15maybe just picking up to 75 miles an hour.
01:17Those kind of gusts could cause some problems,
01:20certainly some issues with transport,
01:22bridges being closed, and some ferry issues as well.
01:25Yes, it will then turn wet in the far northwest,
01:27but for most places, Wednesday is a dry day,
01:30and once the fog's gone, a cracking day again,
01:33a winter sunshine across much of the south.
01:36Always a little bit more cloud further north,
01:37and the winds will be picking up
01:38right across Scotland and Northern Ireland too.
01:41So feeling cooler than these numbers would suggest,
01:44but we could easily get to double figures
01:46along the Moray Firth,
01:47and perhaps parts of northeast England also.
01:49Generally, seven or eight degrees Celsius
01:52after that frosty start in the south
01:53in the afternoon sunshine.
01:55It shouldn't feel too bad.
01:56This spell of rain will swing south
01:59across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
02:01since we'll have a bit of snow mixed in
02:03as it starts to clear across northern Scotland,
02:05mostly over the hills.
02:06We could see a little bit for lower levels.
02:09It does kind of weaken that band of rain
02:11as it pushes south across England and Wales,
02:12so we'll just end up with a little bit of light rain
02:14and drizzle to start Thursday across parts of the south
02:17before that clears away.
02:19And in many places, bright and fine again on Thursday
02:22with decent spells of sunshine.
02:23Quite a lot of showers coming into western Scotland
02:26with some snow on the hills,
02:28and it's still windy across northern Scotland
02:30throughout Thursday, just not quite as windy
02:33as it will be on Wednesday.
02:35Bit of a breeze over northern England, northern Ireland too,
02:37but a bright and breezy day here.
02:38Things brightening up in the south
02:40after that fairly gray start.
02:42Temperatures, again, close to average seven, eight, nine,
02:45maybe 10 or 11 across the far southwest,
02:47but feeling colder with those strong winds
02:50continuing across northern Scotland.
02:52Now, that rain heading southwards
02:54and clearing away from the far south on Thursday morning
02:57is from this weather front.
02:59Once that swings through, high pressure again builds back in,
03:02keeping many places dry.
03:04Now, the weather front topples around the top,
03:06and that one will introduce milder air
03:08as we head towards the weekend.
03:10So temperatures will be on the rise, particularly by night.
