00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather update.
00:03It will be turning a little colder over the next few days,
00:06but nothing exceptional and still very mild out there
00:09this Tuesday.
00:10We're tucked between two weather fronts.
00:12This is called a warm sector, and that's
00:15where the mild air is currently sitting.
00:17But a cold front is approaching, and behind that, we
00:19have colder air.
00:20And that will be steadily pushing across the country
00:23during Tuesday night and through Wednesday,
00:25introducing certainly a chillier feel for all of us
00:29by Wednesday afternoon.
00:30But it's not here yet, so let's get back to the rest of Tuesday.
00:33A lot of cloud around, but some breaks in the cloud,
00:36some sunshine for northeastern parts of Scotland,
00:39and some reasonable optimistic.
00:40We'll see a few more breaks developing further south,
00:43but generally just cloudy and dry,
00:45some drizzle around western coast and hills.
00:47And there's that weather front bringing some rain
00:49into the Western Isles by the end of the day.
00:51The wind's picking up here as well,
00:53but certainly for northeastern parts,
00:55the wind's a lot lighter today compared to yesterday.
00:58Now, it's not quite as mild out there today.
00:59It is still mild for February, but temperatures
01:02are not quite as high.
01:03With a bit of sunshine, 14 is possible in northeast Scotland,
01:06but for most places, 10, 11, 12, maybe 13 in parts of the east.
01:11So as I say, still mild, just not quite as mild as yesterday.
01:14And certainly milder than it will be tomorrow,
01:16because here comes the cold front bringing rain
01:18to Northern Ireland, Western Scotland this evening,
01:20pushing into eastern Scotland, Northern England, Wales,
01:23and the southwest by dawn.
01:24Ahead of that, could also see a few showers
01:26developing across the southeast,
01:28but much of eastern England will be dry.
01:31And across Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,
01:33we'll see some clearer skies late in the night.
01:35Now, late on, that will allow temperatures
01:38to maybe drop down to two or three degrees.
01:40But for most places, again, another fairly mild night,
01:43sixes and sevens.
01:45But it will be turning colder and feeling colder
01:47during tomorrow.
01:48It's only going to be a grey, damp start
01:51for much of northern England and the Midlands.
01:53And then these outbreaks of rain will just
01:55work into eastern areas where they kind of
01:58linger for most of the day.
01:59So it probably won't rain all day,
02:00but certainly dull and damp rain coming and going.
02:03There'll be a few showers for Wales and southwest England,
02:07and certainly showers over northern Scotland
02:09and the north of Northern Ireland.
02:10And over the hills in northern Scotland, the air's colder,
02:13so we will see some snow perhaps affecting
02:15some of the highest routes.
02:17But certainly at low levels, it'll be rain.
02:19And through southern Scotland, northern England,
02:21actually many places here brightening up quite nicely
02:24with decent spells of sunshine.
02:25But the winds are now coming in from the north,
02:27so bringing that chillier feel.
02:29So it is going to be colder.
02:31But these temperatures are actually
02:32pretty close to average for the time of year.
02:35Obviously, feeling quite a lot colder
02:37with the brisk wind developing across northern Scotland.
02:40Now, as we go through Wednesday evening,
02:42still some of this patchy rain lingering,
02:43taking its time to clear away.
02:45It could still be around for much of Thursday as well.
02:47But elsewhere, clearer skies, hint of blue there on the map,
02:50suggesting we are more likely to see a frost as we
02:54head into Thursday morning.
02:55But a lot of dry weather to come through the rest of this week.
