00:00Hello, welcome to your latest national weather from the Met Office.
00:04Bright and breezy sums up Tuesday afternoon for most of the UK.
00:08We do have a weather front sinking its way southwards.
00:11It brought some pretty heavy rain earlier on across Scotland,
00:14Northern Ireland and Northern England.
00:16As it's been working southwards, though, it's kind of been fizzling out,
00:19bringing some damp weather, though, to East Anglia and the southeast
00:23through lunchtime before it scoots away in the early afternoon.
00:26Sunny spells will follow.
00:27A few showers over Northern England, certainly for Northern Ireland,
00:30and plenty for Western Scotland.
00:32Rain at low levels, but snow over the hills here.
00:35Still pretty windy in the northwest elsewhere.
00:38A breeze, yes, but nothing like as strong as the wind has been recently.
00:43And with some sunny spells, pretty mild, actually, across the south,
00:4610, 11, 12 Celsius, closer to average,
00:49six or seven across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:52Further south, though, where it is relatively mild,
00:54temperatures will drop sharply through this evening
00:57as the winds continue to ease down.
00:59And clear skies for most of England and Wales
01:01will allow it to turn quite chilly.
01:03The winds, though, will pick up once more across the northwest
01:06with further rain coming in here and some hill snow, too.
01:10As I said, it is going to turn quite chilly,
01:13temperatures dropping down to two or three Celsius,
01:15even in towns and cities.
01:17Although the winds do ease off for a time overnight,
01:19they're going to strengthen further during the day on Wednesday.
01:22Another blustery, gusty day and quite a wet day for Scotland as well.
01:27It may start dry through the central belt,
01:29but this weather front, another band of rain,
01:31will push southwards, but not as quickly as today.
01:35And it's going to kind of linger through central Scotland,
01:37southern Scotland, most of Northern Ireland,
01:39certainly for much of the afternoon.
01:41So wet here and we will see further snow over the hills of Scotland,
01:46but increasingly through Wednesday coming down to lower levels.
01:51A few scattered rain showers for southern England, south Wales,
01:54but most of England and Wales will be dry
01:56with sunny spells across the northeast.
01:58But it is going to be windy here as well,
02:00gusty winds, the winds kind of bouncing over the Pennines.
02:03So some very strong gusts for parts of northeast England
02:06and southeast Scotland, suddenly gusting up to 50,
02:09maybe 60 miles an hour.
02:11So we do have a Met Office yellow warning in place for that.
02:15The rain will continue to trickle southwards through the day
02:18and introduce that colder air further north.
02:20So temperatures here only 5, 6 degrees in the afternoon,
02:24another pretty mild day across the south,
02:26but it won't feel as mild because those winds will be picking up.
02:30And as I said, that rain will continue to track southwards,
02:33slowly edging into northwest England, north Wales,
02:36during Wednesday evening.
02:38And increasingly, the showers following on behind
02:40are going to turn more and more to snow at lower and lower levels.
02:44So that's something we need to keep a close eye on
02:46because this cold front is introducing much colder air than today's one.
02:50And that's going to push southwards across all parts.
02:52And these weather fronts coming in,
02:54the isobars pinching together as well,
02:56suggesting we could see some problems with snow and strong winds
03:00across western Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland,
03:03during Wednesday, late Wednesday, overnight and into Thursday.
03:07So again, we have a Met Office yellow warning in place for that.
03:12Potentially for strong winds and snow, that means blizzards.
03:15So a couple of Met Office weather warnings in place.
03:17You can see them, of course, on the app and on our website.
