09 January - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Morning. Another one where you'll probably have to scrape the car.
00:04A cold start out there and staying chilly throughout the day,
00:07particularly where the fog sticks around.
00:09We've seen some thick fog patches once more over northern Scotland.
00:12Elsewhere, any early showers clearing away from the southwest,
00:16so for most it is a dry day.
00:18Quite a bit of clouds still over these northeastern counties of England
00:21and southeast Scotland.
00:22One or two light showers can't be completely ruled out here,
00:25but for many, certainly over the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast,
00:28a brighter day compared to Monday.
00:31There is this brisk wind, however, if anything, a little stronger than yesterday,
00:35bringing a real chill to proceedings.
00:38Temperatures starting off around or below freezing,
00:40stumbling up with the help of a bit of weak sunshine to 3, 4, maybe 5 degrees Celsius,
00:47but certainly feeling colder where it stays quite grey
00:50and with the wind across the south as well.
00:53Pretty quickly, if temperatures do get much above freezing,
00:56they will fall back below during this evening under those clear skies.
01:00Stubborn fog patches over northern Scotland persist,
01:03keeping the temperatures below freezing all day,
01:05but we may see a bit of a change with a bit more cloud coming in here through the night,
01:09that cloud thickening up to parts of southeast Scotland, northeast England,
01:14to provide a few showers.
01:15These will mostly be of rain, but some snow is possible over the hills
01:19and, of course, we've got those showers.
01:21It could turn a bit icy once more.
01:23Mist and fog could form as well where the winds are light,
01:26but for many in the east and the south,
01:28there will be a noticeable wind continuing to blow as we head into Wednesday,
01:32so we'll start down at or below freezing even in towns and cities.
01:37A frosty start then to Wednesday.
01:39Again, for many, a dry and fine day,
01:41but a cloudier feel for eastern Scotland, northeast England,
01:45with a few more of those showers drifting in.
01:47Again, chiefly of rain, but of snow over the hills.
01:49Quite a bit of sunshine, I suspect, for the midlands,
01:51south Wales, southern England and east Anglia as well during Wednesday.
01:55And again, that west coast of Scotland doing well for sunshine.
01:58But further east and south, more cloud and a stronger breeze.
02:02So even though temperatures on Wednesday are likely to be a degree or so higher,
02:06it won't feel any warmer.
02:07It will probably feel colder, in fact,
02:09with that wind continuing to strengthen off the North Sea.
02:13During the evening, not a great deal of change.
02:15Again, we'll see that frost forming quite quickly.
02:17High pressure remains in charge through this week,
02:19bringing a lot of dry but chilly weather.
