00:00Hello again. We haven't seen much rain recently, but there will be some around during Wednesday.
00:06A band of it slipping its way southward, so most of us will see at least a little bit.
00:10Following on behind, though, skies will brighten and for many, we'll see sunshine returning.
00:15But it's also going to be feeling colder, especially by the end of Wednesday.
00:20Let's take a look at the big picture. High pressure has been dominating.
00:22This one's shrinking away. Another one is waiting to topple in.
00:26But in between, these weather fronts are drifting south, bringing some patchy rain and also introducing that colder air,
00:32and particularly a cold wind picking up across northern Scotland by the end of Wednesday.
00:38That's all to come, though. Let's rewind the clock, though, and get back to Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning,
00:43because a couple of weather fronts bringing the clouds and some outbreaks of rain across parts of northern England,
00:49particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:51Much of the south staying dry. Fog likely to thicken up again during Tuesday evenings, and that could be around for a while.
00:59Then that expand of rain moving across Scotland, Northern Ireland through the early hours,
01:03and the wind starting to pick up once more across the far north.
01:07As the sky is clear, it could turn quite chilly in the far northwest.
01:10And ahead of that weather front, again, temperatures, certainly rural areas, likely to drop a touch below freezing.
01:15But most towns and cities will be above freezing as we head into Wednesday.
01:20But generally, a lot more cloud than recent days, certainly across northern England, quite a damp start and for a good part of Wales.
01:26Some outbreaks of rain here. We could see some heavier bursts for a time across southwest England.
01:30The rain will be fairly light and patchy, though, as it crosses east Anglia in the southeast during the afternoon.
01:36Some showers will follow into northern Scotland, snow on the hills.
01:40By the end of the day, some snow even to low levels across the northern isles.
01:44But for most places, as I said, it's a brightening up kind of day.
01:48Yes, it starts pretty gloomy, but the afternoon looking largely fine with quite a bit of sunshine.
01:53But it will be feeling colder early on.
01:55Temperatures likely to get to double digits across the south, but colder air arriving.
02:00And when you add that wind on, it really will feel pretty bitter across the northeast.
02:05Some very strong winds across that northeastern corner in particular, making it feel sub zero.
02:11Those strong winds will blow more wintry showers across the northeast, even across the mainland of Scotland.
02:16Some snow is possible and it could turn icy.
02:18And ice is a potential risk as the showers drift down the eastern side of England into Thursday morning.
02:25A bit of sleet and snow is possible, but mostly rain.
02:27But as I said, could be icy, as for many will start with a frost on Thursday morning.
02:32So it's a cold day, but some sparkly day of sunshine for the vast majority on Thursday.
02:38And that chilly winds will be slowly easing.
02:40Still noticeable along the east coast with a few showers for Lincolnshire and Norfolk.
02:45But otherwise largely dry.
02:47But look at the temperatures, only four or five degrees Celsius for many.
02:51So below average for this time of January.
02:54High pressure moving in behind that weather front, though, sticking around then into the weekend, keeping the weather fronts at bay.
02:59We will see quite a lot of cloud across northern Scotland, quite breezy here as well.
03:03So actually quite mild across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but close to the high pressure across England and Wales into the weekend.
03:10Likely to stay pretty chilly with frosty nights, a bit of fog, but not much rain around as we head into next week.
03:17More details on all of that, of course, if you follow us across social media.
