19 January - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.

00:00Hello, signs of things slowly turning milder over the next few days, but it's still cold
00:05out there at the moment.
00:06The snow is easing, but we still have potentially some slippery conditions.
00:10So we do have Met Office yellow warnings for ice in place across northern Scotland, parts
00:14of Northern Ireland, Wales and Western England.
00:17The showers in the West are easing away.
00:20Most places dry here.
00:21But wherever we've had showers or snow melting through the day, as I said, it could be freezing
00:26up and creating some slippery conditions.
00:28We'll still have showers coming in on a brisk and cold wind across northern Scotland, mostly
00:33rain at lower levels, but some snow over the hills here.
00:37For many, it's just a dry, clear and cold night with temperatures tumbling again widely
00:43well below freezing, minus two, minus three, even in towns and cities and much lower than
00:47that where there's any snow lying on the ground.
00:50So potentially still quite icy first thing on Friday morning.
00:53Could be some fog around as well, especially for Northern Ireland that may take a while
00:58to clear.
00:59But for most, Friday is going to be a sparkling day, yes, a frosty start, but then plenty
01:03of sunshine.
01:05There will be a brisk breeze blowing in a few showers along the east coast of England,
01:10perhaps southeast Scotland, but very hit and miss.
01:13Most places dry.
01:14Those showers could still have some sleet and snow mixed in, too.
01:17For the vast majority, though, as I said, dry, blue sky, plenty of sunshine, which means
01:22you may be able to feel the epicity, the sunshine on a cold winter's day because temperatures
01:28will be five, six degrees Celsius, maybe seven or eight across the southwest.
01:31Feeling colder, though, with this brisk wind along some of those North Sea coasts.
01:36Pretty quickly as well, temperatures drop down again with the frost regaining control
01:41of the map as we go through Friday evening.
01:44Another frosty start in the weekend, certainly for England and Wales.
01:48And also notice here some mist and fog patches thickening up.
01:52More of that fog, I suspect, for Saturday morning, and it could be pretty dense and
01:55slow to clear.
01:56However, notice also a change in the northwest.
01:59This is rain creeping in to western Scotland, so turning damp here and breezy.
02:04That will help to lift the temperatures and that damp and drizzly weather will spread
02:08slowly to parts of Northern Ireland and other parts of Scotland, although I suspect much
02:12of the east and south of Scotland will stay dry.
02:16Certainly most of England and Wales looking dry and fine on Saturday.
02:19There will be some fog, which takes quite a while to clear away, but generally quite
02:25a bit of sunshine, light winds, temperatures still a touch below average at 4 or 5 Celsius.
02:30But notice milder conditions are coming in with that rain into the northwest, a process
02:35that will continue as we head into Saturday evening and Sunday.
02:39This cloud and rain being created by a couple of weather fronts and it's behind these, that's
02:44where the mild air is lurking.
02:46And it tries slowly to edge its way across more parts of the country during the weekend,
02:51but it is a slow process.
02:53By Sunday, milder air definitely for Scotland and Northern Ireland, but still the blues
02:58holding on, still the cold air persisting across East Anglia and the southeast.
03:02So Sunday, many places still dry.
03:05Again, there could be some issues with fog patches.
03:08There will be some rain in the northwest and it's in the northwest where things will slowly
03:13be turning milder.
