00:00Welcome to your national weather update. It is a very mild Monday. Things have
00:05changed dramatically over the course of the weekend. We started the weekend with
00:09cold air in place, some sunshine in place as well, but this massive cloud
00:14down to the southwest that has swept in, pushed the cold air away and brought with
00:19it outbreaks of snow for a time and then plenty of rain and we're left
00:25with plenty of that rain and cloud around through the rest of Monday. Parts
00:28of eastern England may not see too much and Northern Ireland turning a bit
00:31brighter through the rest of today. Perhaps the clouds starting to break
00:34across parts of northwest England by the end of the day. But further rain to come
00:38in the southwest could cause a few issues and more rain to come across much
00:43of Scotland. Also it's very mild out there. Temperatures in the teens 14-15
00:49degrees are possible and certainly a lot higher than they were this time last
00:54week and that's because the winds have completely switched direction. Those
00:57winds are pretty gusty, blustery conditions continuing with further
01:00pulses of rain into the southwest this evening. In fact we keep quite a bit of
01:04cloud and rain over south Wales, the Midlands and all of southern England
01:08through the night. Some showers keep going across western parts of Northern
01:12Ireland and northwest Scotland but much of northern Britain actually turns dry
01:15and clear. It is December so the length of night means it could still turn
01:20quite chilly tonight. A touch of frost is possible across northeast Scotland
01:24and northeast England in rural spots but a really mild night with the cloud
01:28and the rain across the south and east. That makes for a fairly dull damp start on
01:33Tuesday morning across eastern England but that should scoot away and actually
01:38for many Tuesdays are dry and a bright day. The winds will be lighter as well,
01:42plenty of sunshine, a few showers for north and west Wales, perhaps northwest
01:46England, certainly the Highlands and a few scattered across Northern Ireland. But
01:50many places dry and bright. Temperatures will be dropping, they're not going to be
01:54as high on Tuesday compared to Monday but still actually for most places above
01:58average and still double figures across parts of the south. Still feeling colder
02:03in the northwest with a brisk wind here but for many the winds will be lighter
02:06during Tuesday. As we go through Tuesday evening we'll see more showers coming
02:11into the northwest and showers starting to gather more down to the southwest as
02:16well. We need to be prepared for more showery rain as we go through the rest
02:20of this week. That swirl you can see there, that is an area of low pressure up
02:24to the northwest but as well as that we are going to see further weather systems
02:27coming in from the Atlantic. Now details and timing remain a little uncertain at
02:33this stage but the broad picture you can see with the Atlantic influencing things,
02:37weather systems coming in bringing further spells of rain. Staying quite
02:41mild across the south but there's some colder air and northerly winds not too
02:46far away from the north so it looks like a bit of a north-south split as we head
02:50into the Christmas weekend. We'll have more on that in our weather for the
02:53week ahead. You'll be able to watch that on YouTube so make sure you subscribe to our
02:57YouTube channels and then you won't miss a thing.
