00:00Welcome to a national weather update. If you're watching on YouTube don't forget
00:03to hit subscribe. The cold weather continues but for how long? There are
00:08some signs of a change on the horizon. More on that in a moment. First of all it
00:12is still cold out there. Some wet weather in the southwest that brought a mixture
00:15of rain sleet and snow here. The showers across northern Scotland they are mostly
00:19of snow and we do still have Met Office yellow warnings in place. Still very
00:23windy across Shetland especially those winds easing a little bit through the
00:28afternoon and evening. Further wintry showers for northern parts of Northern
00:31Ireland and a few just grazing the eastern side of England. But for many
00:35it's a fine bright crisp cold winter's day with temperatures struggling to get
00:40much above freezing one or two degrees for most places and feeling colder in
00:44that wind across the north. Where further snow showers will come in through the
00:48evening and overnight a few centimetres likely across low grounds and several
00:53centimetres on the hills. There'll also be a covering of snow across some parts
00:57of Northern Ireland and a few wintry showers across eastern England could
01:00turn things icy here. Elsewhere as I said most places will just stay dry, clear and
01:06cold. The winds easing a touch for many as well which may allow temperatures to
01:10drop further particularly across central parts of England, East Wales minus five
01:15minus six even in towns and cities. And where there's any snow lying across
01:18parts of the north temperatures again likely to drop to negative double
01:22figures. So cold, frosty in places, icy starts to Thursday. Again for the vast
01:29majority it's going to be a fine bright day with plenty of sunshine. But a few
01:34more of these wintry showers coming into parts of northeast England and southeast
01:38Scotland. Again a covering of snow is possible. They'll be hit and miss but you
01:41could get a covering more than just a covering over the North York moors. A
01:45few more centimetres likely here. Wintry showers coming into northern parts of
01:48Northern Ireland and although they'll be easing there will still be some snow
01:51showers coming into northern Scotland also. Again don't need me to tell you
01:55it's going to be another cold day. One, two, three degrees at best to add on the
02:00breeze and it will feel colder along some of these North Sea coasts. There are
02:05signs of a change though as we go into the outlook we'll start to see the winds
02:09shifting in direction. That's going to happen through Thursday night more into
02:13Friday as this weather system starts to push in to the northwest. Otherwise
02:17things refreezing during Thursday evening. So again the potential for
02:21things to turn quite icy but this weather system coming into the
02:24northwest could bring some heavier snow for a time. That is something we need to
02:28keep a close eye on. We do have Met Office warnings in place for that. High
02:32pressure dominating then further south for a time as well. But look at this the
02:36map is slowly changing colour and then here comes an area of low pressure
02:41really changing things during the second half of the weekend. By Sunday most of us
02:46have changed from blue to orange. Much milder air is on the way but this
02:50weather system will also bring strong winds, some wet weather and that means
02:55we could see some snow for a time as it hits the colder air. Plenty going on then
02:59with the forecast. Please stay up to date. The details of this low will be firmed
03:04up on over the next couple of days. Those weather warnings you can see on our app
03:07and on our website and make sure you're following us right across social media.
