00:00Welcome to your national weather update. Some heavy snow this morning across parts of Scotland.
00:05It is going to ease through the afternoon but we're not completely done with the wintry
00:08weather although things will be turning milder through this weekend thanks to what's behind
00:14me this massive cloud coming up from the Atlantic. More on that in a moment because we've seen
00:19plenty of snow coming in as you can see here on the radar across parts of Scotland especially
00:23through the central belt and just to the north and we'll continue to see wet weather coming
00:27in here through the afternoon. Turning at low levels now more and more to rain but still
00:32some heavy snow particularly on the hills just to the north of the central belt so still
00:37some tricky driving conditions here. Elsewhere I'd say at lower levels turning more to rain
00:42a few showers for Northern Ireland but most places dry and bright with sunny spells but
00:48it is another cold one. Temperatures struggling to get much above freezing yet again highs
00:54of just one or two across much of eastern England. Bit of a switch in the wind direction
00:58however starting to come in from the west which is why that snow is turning to rain
01:02at lower levels and why temperatures around western coasts later could get up to six or
01:07seven Celsius. And as we see this wintry weather move south through this evening again we're
01:13going to have that mixture of rain sleet and some hill snow across parts of southern Scotland
01:18then into northern England perhaps into north Wales. So things could be quite icy and again
01:23not great on some of the higher routes with snow falling. Met Office warnings are in place.
01:29Cold and frosty one again across parts of eastern England again a pretty hard frost
01:34here temperatures easily down to minus double figures in some locations and the same goes
01:39across parts of northeast Scotland. But it's turning a little milder in the west not as
01:43cold as recent nights here as that westerly breeze continues to just slowly bring in slightly
01:50milder air. For most though Saturday is another cold day for many a dry day but this zone
01:56of wetter weather is going to linger over parts of northern England particularly the
02:00west of the Pennines north Wales. Again rain at low levels but some snow on the higher
02:06routes further snow showers coming in across the highlands of Scotland as well. But much
02:10of northern Ireland eastern Scotland eastern and southern England it will be a dry and
02:15a fine day on Saturday. Cold but not quite as cold temperatures up to the dizzy heights
02:22of four or five Celsius and further west well a little higher than that milder air is slowly
02:28creeping in and that will continue through Saturday evening and more particularly as
02:33we head into Sunday. But still a few showers around on Saturday evening but most places
02:38will be dry. Another frost forming in the south the blue here will return but out to
02:44the southwest that massive cloud we saw earlier an area of low pressure is on its way it's
02:49going to trudge towards the UK during the weekend and look at this it's bringing with
02:54it very mild air certainly much milder than we've seen. It's also bringing with it weather
03:00fronts that will bring moisture and as that moisture hits the colder air well that could
03:06cause a few problems in terms of snow and ice. So we start largely dry on Sunday but
03:11the wet weather will be into the southwest and although it is bringing milder air as
03:15it hits the colder air in place there will be some snow for a time. It's not going to
03:19last too long but there could be an hour or two of heavy snow north Wales northern England
03:25and parts of Scotland and even further south the rain may be falling on frozen surfaces
03:30so it could be very icy indeed. So we do have warnings in place through Sunday as well.
03:35Make sure you check out the Met Office website for the details of those warnings. Get our
03:39app for the latest as well make sure you're following us right across social media.
