16 October - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00This working week may be starting largely dry and bright but it won't be
00:03ending that way. We are in line for some very heavy rain from midweek onwards
00:08from Storm Barbet. It is pushing its way steadily towards Spain and Portugal and
00:13then it's going to turn and head northwards bringing bands of heavy rain
00:17becoming quite slow moving once it's arrived as well. So from midweek onwards
00:22as I said there is the potential for some significant disruption that's why
00:26I would name that's this storm this morning. As well as the heavy rain it
00:29will be bringing some strong winds the isobars squeezing together as well but
00:33the rain is the main threat. There are Met Office warnings in place. Please keep
00:39up to date with the forecast this week and check out our warnings on our app
00:43and online to see if you could be affected. Okay let's bring it back though
00:48and break the weather down for the shorter term because for the time being
00:51we do still have high pressure in control bringing most places a fine
00:54Monday. A few scattered showers across the Northern Isles one or two in Western
00:59Scotland maybe just feeding one or two in towards the Kent coastline but for
01:04the vast majority it's dry and bright. It's quite a lot of high cloud around so
01:08the sunshine is fairly hazy and it feels quite chilly as well. Temperatures
01:12below average in most places for the time of year 11 to about 14 Celsius. The
01:17breeze picking up in the southwest as well making it feel a little chillier
01:21here and that breeze will continue to strengthen getting quite gusty as we go
01:26through Tuesday over southwest England parts of West Wales especially. We'll
01:31keep quite a lot of high cloud across the south overnight but clearer skies
01:34for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England meaning it will turn
01:37quite cold again. A hint of blue on the chart there so yes some pockets of frost
01:41likely across parts of southern Scotland and Northern England in the countryside
01:45but temperatures holding up quite nicely in the south with more cloud and that
01:49strengthening wind getting as I say pretty blustery across north and west
01:53Wales and around the hills and coasts of southwest England through the night and
01:56first thing on Tuesday and as well as that strengthening wind there will be a
02:00little patchy rain just tracking northwards through Devon, Cornwall and
02:04the Isles of Scilly. That'll spread its way towards Northern Ireland late in
02:08the day. Elsewhere bar the odd shower still across the Northern Isles a good
02:13chunk of Scotland, Northern England, Central and Eastern England will be dry
02:16and fine again with hazy sunshine. That breeze though picking up also along the
02:21east coast again bringing a bit of a chill as temperatures struggle again to
02:25get into the teens. A little milder in the south but again with that wind a
02:30little bit stronger probably not feeling any warmer at all. This first area of
02:35rain then will continue to track northwards as we go through Tuesday
02:38night and into Wednesday and that is the first sign of that weather coming up
02:42from the south we saw earlier from Storm Barbette. That is going to bring
02:46increasing amounts of rainfall from midweek onwards and lasting through
02:51Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday. Some very heavy rain, persistent rain as well
02:57that rain could really build up bringing the threat of flooding and strong winds
03:02will be an extra hazard as well. So as I said please do keep up to date with the
03:06forecast you can check out our warnings on our app and on our website and make
03:10sure you're following us right across social media.
