00:00Hello, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:03Another hot and sunny day across a good part
00:05of southern Britain.
00:07The humidity, though, is building.
00:09Further north, a bit more cloud around for some
00:11than yesterday, with some patchy rain around as well.
00:14But it's really further south we need
00:16to look tonight, where we're expecting some thunderstorms
00:19to develop.
00:20And there are Met Office yellow warnings in place.
00:23More on those in just a moment.
00:24First of all, let's take a look at the bigger picture.
00:26The thunderstorms are actually brewing
00:28across Spain and France.
00:29But we've got a weather front sitting across us.
00:31That's been bringing rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:34overnight, trickling south and fizzling out.
00:37But nonetheless, some damp conditions
00:40across southern Scotland, the far northwest of England,
00:42north and west Wales from that weather
00:44front through the day today.
00:45Brighter skies across Scotland and Northern Ireland following,
00:48with a few showers for the west of Northern Ireland
00:50and the Western Isles.
00:51For the bulk of England and east Wales,
00:55it is a hot day with hazy sunshine and temperatures
00:59higher than yesterday's.
01:00That weather front marks the boundary between the heat
01:03across the south, where we could see 30 Celsius
01:05across the southeast and cooler conditions, obviously
01:08under the cloud, but also fresher weather
01:10following across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:13However, the heat and humidity will win out
01:17as we see another pulse pushing up from the south.
01:19And that will bring the thunderstorms.
01:21They're going to be hit and miss,
01:23but across southern parts of England later this evening,
01:26some torrential downpours expected to develop.
01:28Most likely area to see the very heavy rain
01:31east Anglia and the southeast, but even further west,
01:34there could be some lively thunderstorms too.
01:36So there is this Met Office yellow warning in place
01:40through the night and into Thursday.
01:43We'll see gusty winds tied into those storms
01:46where we see them, torrential rain falling
01:49in a short space of time, and also widespread lightning.
01:53All of those things could cause some disruption.
01:56It will be a warm and humid night,
01:58as you can imagine as well, a sticky night,
02:00particularly again across east Anglia and the southeast.
02:03With clearer skies across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
02:05it's quite a comfortable night here.
02:08Those thunderstorms still likely to be rumbling on
02:10during Thursday morning, more especially
02:12over eastern England, but still one or two
02:14maybe over the Midlands before they all tend
02:16to drift out into the North Sea by Thursday afternoon.
02:20So at the end of Thursday, actually looking fine
02:22and dry for most places.
02:24There will still be a few showers
02:26in Western Scotland and Northern Ireland,
02:28and there will be a lot more cloud compared to today
02:31across the Midlands and eastern England,
02:33but still probably quite a warm and humid feel
02:36for some here.
02:37We could still get up to 24, 25 Celsius elsewhere.
02:40Temperatures mostly in the high teens
02:42are feeling a good deal fresher generally.
02:46During Thursday evening, we'll continue
02:47with one or two showers in the Northwest,
02:49but for many places elsewhere, it will stay fine and dry.
02:51However, notice further thunderstorms brewing down
02:56across France, and they may, well,
02:58track northwards by the time we get to Friday.
03:00So end of the week, actually for many,
03:02Friday looking like a dry day with sunny spells,
03:04but there is a continued threat of thunderstorms
03:07across parts of the South.
