00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Stepping outside this morning, yet again it's bitterly cold. Watch out for ice as well as snow showers.
00:10Now these snow showers will be frequent across the north of Scotland, Shetland as well as Orkney
00:15and here we do have an amber warning with a further 20 centimetres of snow and drifting abroad.
00:20Snow and ice warning extends towards Northern Ireland, West Coast of Wales, the West Country
00:25as well as the eastern side of England. It's pretty much the distribution of the
00:28showers either side of the country, running down the coastal districts in particular.
00:33So through the morning, yes it is a bitter outside. Those snow showers will be frequent
00:38across the north with an icy wind and ice will be a feature of the weather as well,
00:42temperatures are that low. For Northern Ireland, one or two showers running in,
00:46a mix of rain and snow along the coast but inland you'll see some snow showers
00:49and some across the Irish sea coast, certainly Pembrokeshire seeing a few
00:53and you can see one or two just clipping the north coast of Devon as well as Cornwall.
00:57Towards the east there along the North Sea coastline you will continue to see those
01:02wintry showers which will run down towards Norfolk through the day.
01:07So there are weather warnings in force but wherever you are it's very cold outside,
01:12at least though with a light wind from the central belt of Scotland down the spine of the country.
01:17Not feeling too bad, if you wrap up warm you'll see some good spells of sunshine,
01:22always more clouds associated with these snow showers and a bit of a breeze
01:26along this east side, north coast of Northern Ireland, west coast of Wales
01:30and certainly that relentless wind just delivering further snow showers through the day
01:35across northern Scotland pushing in across the Highlands as well as Aberdeenshire.
01:40Here are your temperatures, no surprise, temperatures struggling today and where
01:43you see the snow they're going to be sub-zero. Through Thursday night, tonight and into tomorrow
01:50it's pretty much a repeat performance, a subtle change in wind direction will deliver
01:54more showers to Scotland on Friday and as you can see through the early hours
01:58they are gathering a mix of rain and snow along the coastline, inland though
02:02you'll see some snow, there's a snow warning in force for more snow cover as we head through the
02:07day on Friday. Sub-zero temperatures as you can see a penetrating frost yet again, clearer skies
02:13towards the south to start the last of the working days this week, yes it's a clear day, it's a cold
02:19one but with some sunshine. Now across Scotland you'll see a mix of those wintry showers, snow
02:24over the higher ground, there'll be frequent a stronger wind here, some brighter skies for
02:29Northern Ireland, rather hazy sunshine but brighter weather extends from North Wales down towards
02:34East Anglia as well as the southeast and here temperatures are notched up on the last few days,
02:39four or five degrees Celsius. The air turns relatively mild on Saturday, we'll see some
02:44showery bursts of rain extend across the country and then it's really Sunday where we watch as
02:49a deep area of low pressure extends from the Atlantic pushing across the country. Here's your
02:55wind warning on Sunday, damaging winds gusts along the coast could reach 17 miles an hour, inland 50
03:01to 60 miles an hour and it would be windy even towards more southern and eastern areas. I'll see you later.
