00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. Remaining bitterly cold
00:05through the next few days with very low temperatures by night, some places not seeing temperatures
00:11above freezing by day and with that snow showers. An amber warning is in force across northern
00:16Scotland, Orkney and Shetland. An additional 20 centimetres of snow likely here through
00:21the next day or so and you can see this broad yellow warning for snow and ice extending
00:25down towards Northern Ireland, western parts of Wales, North Wales, the West Country and
00:29the eastern side of England as well. Associated with snow showers, that's the distribution
00:33of them but always the most frequent bursts across the far north where we will see some
00:38drifting of snow. Now let me take you through the details through Wednesday evening. Across
00:43the far south we've seen just a little bit of rain grazing the far south coast, a wintry
00:48mix within there as it engages with the cold air but that's clearing off the scene. The
00:52skies will clear, clearer skies across the bulk of the country. Further snow showers
00:57though just moving down the North Sea. Frequent snow showers across Scotland, the central
01:01and northern part and further snow showers moving in on a strong wind for Northern Ireland
01:05and one or two for the Irish Sea coast. So temperatures will be sub zero across the snowfields
01:10of Scotland in particular. We'll see temperatures down to around minus 10, minus 11 degrees
01:15Celsius. So as you're stepping out and waking up on Thursday, watch out for ice where you've
01:19seen those snow showers, frequent bursts yet again through the day on Thursday pushing
01:24inland across the highlands of Scotland. Those snow showers running down towards East
01:29Anglia as well and one or two just clipping Wales, the Isle of Man as well as Northern
01:33Ireland. Inland though lots of sunshine to be had, however the frost will return with
01:38a vengeance through Thursday afternoon into evening time as temperatures struggle to around
01:42two degrees Celsius, sub zero though over the snow cover. So through Thursday evening
01:47and overnight some subtle changes in our weather across the northwest. More frequent snow showers
01:53moving in. There'll be a mix of rain and snow along the coastline, stronger wind as
01:58well and more cloud across Scotland as we head into Friday morning. One or two showers
02:03just clipping the far north of Northern Ireland. Elsewhere because of the orientation of the
02:07wind we'll see drier skies along the coastline and inland. Yet again some clear skies to
02:13start the day on Friday but again we'll see some very low temperatures. Temperatures not
02:17as low across Scotland, there'll be a bit more cloud and more wind around even so it
02:21will be sub zero. So through the day on Friday you can see frequent showers moving in, a
02:26mix of rain and snow, snow over the hills and the mountains, more clouds just pushing
02:30across northern counties of England but brighter skies further south with some sunshine and
02:35hazy sunshine across Northern Ireland but the wind will pick up later on, heralding
02:39a change in our weather as we head through into the weekend. So this is the cold pool
02:43of weather which is currently giving us those very low temperatures. As the wind changes
02:48direction through Friday and into Saturday we'll see this weather front come in from
02:52the west. We could see some transient snow but that's no turning back to rain quite readily
02:57as the air turns milder through Saturday and into Sunday. The key feature of the weather
03:01though will be the wind, wind really picking up some strength through Saturday and certainly
03:06Sunday a deep area of low pressure will track in from the Atlantic. So we're back to some
03:11wet and windy weather with some damaging gusts particularly towards more northern and western
03:16areas. A wind warning is in force.
