00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning forecast from the Met Office.
00:03It's wet this morning across the western half of Scotland, the rain extending
00:07down towards Northern Ireland, North West England. Further east, yes you'll see
00:10some clearer skies first thing across Aberdeenshire, borders North East
00:13England but it will be a chilly start to the day. Showers for Shetland as well as
00:17Orkney. This patchy rain across Wales will come and go, North West England as
00:21well and even more cloud across the Midlands but some clearer skies, eastern
00:25counties, Central Southern England. So a bit of a chilly start to the day here
00:29but at least we'll see some brighter weather. Towards the West Country a keen
00:32breeze and again cloud coming and going. One or two showery bursts can't be ruled
00:37out. Now this is a warm front which is pushing ever eastwards and southwards
00:42through the day. It's not going to touch Shetland and we won't see much rain
00:45across Central Southern England although cloud will increase. But one of the
00:50features of the weather is that it will turn milder from the west. However
00:53western Scotland yet again today getting the brunt of the highest rainfall totals
00:58It's going to be a wet day also across northern counties, Northern Ireland.
01:02Patchy rain across Wales and this rain extending across towards eastern counties
01:06through the morning into the afternoon. A strong wind across Western Scotland,
01:11Northern Ireland, North West England. Elsewhere in Shelter you could see some
01:16dry skies to end the day, east of the Pennines as well as the Highlands.
01:19Temperatures here though only 8 or 9 degrees Celsius but 10 or 11 further
01:24west. Here's your wind warning which kicks in at midnight into Thursday
01:29morning. Now winds could pick up to severe gale even touching storm force
01:34for a time across the far north of Scotland where gusts could reach 70-80
01:38miles an hour and some damaging gusts as the winds hop over the Highlands as well
01:42as Pennines as we head through Thursday. So expect some travel disruption, the
01:47risk of ferries being cancelled, a risk to high-sided vehicles if you are
01:51traveling and there could be some bridge restrictions as well. So through
01:55Wednesday evening it remains damp across windward facing coasts. More persistent
02:00rain by this point across Shetland as well as Orkney. It really isn't until we
02:05see the cloud gather across the far north of Scotland and then the rain
02:09intensify. This is a cold front and it's behind this where the winds will really
02:14strengthen. So overnight cloudy skies across Wales, the West Country where we
02:19see some patchy rain, dry skies towards more eastern areas and then this front
02:23becomes very squally. The winds become quite violent towards the northeast as
02:27those gusts pick up as well. Hanging on to milder weather across many areas but
02:32it does turn colder across the far north into Thursday morning. So some tricky
02:36driving, some hazardous driving through the first part of Thursday depending on
02:41where you are in the country. Certainly high waves along the coastline and this
02:45rain will be fairly intense across the central belt pushing down towards
02:48northern England as well as Northern Ireland. We hang on to the clouds and
02:52patchy rain across the southwest but we see brighter skies and blustery showers
02:56through the day further east as well as north and those winds will be relentless
03:01through the afternoon. Temperatures then well on the mild side initially but we
03:06see more cold air just come in across Scotland on Friday. Elsewhere the clouds
03:10will just come and go with some patchy rain and drizzle and then into the
03:14weekend. Yet again it remains rather windy. The chance of some showers. For
