00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. Tuesday evening is wet
00:06for many, but turning drier from the northwest through Wednesday. Let me take you through
00:11the bigger picture. All courtesy of an area of low pressure with numerous fronts just
00:16circulating around it, bringing with it showery bursts of rain. But it's clearing towards
00:19the east, hence the reason why the wet weather is lingering on across more eastern counties
00:23into Wednesday. Whereas further northwest you'll see some drier and brighter weather
00:28to end the day. However, weighting in the wings, another band of cloud and rain. More
00:33about that in a moment. For the time being, we're under a yellow rain morning anywhere
00:37from Perth down towards Northumberland. The land is saturated, doesn't need any more rain.
00:42However, the rain will continue and be persistent into Wednesday morning, helped with a strong
00:48wind coming in from the northeast. So here's that batch of rain which just lingers on across
00:52these parts. Showery to the north for Scotland and showers through Tuesday evening across
00:57England and Wales as well as Northern Ireland. A strong wind down the Irish Sea and strong
01:01winds coming in along this eastern side as well. As that low cloud of the rain just sinks
01:07its way southwards very slowly. An improving picture overnight towards the west of Scotland.
01:12You'll see drier skies, but with that temperatures falling. So we'll see a frost. Lowest temperatures
01:17northwest Highlands minus two degrees Celsius and a chilly end to the night for some parts
01:22of Northern Ireland, particularly towards the west. But showers continue further east.
01:27So here's your Wednesday morning outlook. If you are stepping out and about, it's cold
01:31towards the west, even some freezing fog patches. The odd patch of ice at elevation can't be
01:35ruled out. Showery bursts likely across more eastern areas, extending down across much
01:40of northern England towards the Midlands, central southern England and a strong wind
01:44along this east coast. A few showers coming in on a strong wind across southwest Scotland
01:49as well as the west country. A few just clipping Northern Ireland. However, an improving picture
01:53here. So through the day, it's really central and eastern areas of England where we'll see
01:58the worst of the weather. Those really sort of leaden skies, low clouds and strong winds
02:03along this eastern side here. It does improve for the southeast of Scotland. We lose a lot
02:09of the rain, just one or two showers through the afternoon, as well as Orkney seeing some
02:13brighter weather, Shetland a few showers, brighter skies across much of Scotland as
02:17well as Northern Ireland. West Wales not doing too badly. We'll see some brighter weather
02:21here as well as the west country, but windy down towards the south as well as the east.
02:24And that showery rain just continues anywhere from the Midlands eastwards through the latter
02:29part of Wednesday. Temperatures then coming in around 5 to 8, 9 degrees Celsius cold along
02:34this east coast. And then a frost returns early on into Wednesday night across much
02:39of Scotland before this more cloud comes in and also outbreaks of rain. The wind picks
02:44up some strength from the south this time and that means a wet and windy night across
02:48much of Scotland and Northern Ireland could see some heavier pulses and even some snow
02:53over the higher ground as the rain spreads down towards northern England, the Midlands,
02:57Wales and the west country through the latter part of the night. Clearer skies then follow.
03:01A cloudy end to the night across eastern counties and you'll see the rain as we head through
03:05Thursday. So let's have a snapshot of Thursday afternoon. If you are stepping out and about,
03:10you may catch some sunshine across Scotland, although blustery showers will be really
03:15running in on a strong wind across the north as well as the west. A few for the far north
03:18of Northern Ireland, but drier skies inland and brighter weather for northern counties
03:22of England, west Midlands, Wales as well as the west country. But this is where the cloud
03:26is. It's going to be stubborn with some patchy rain and drizzle just coming and going through
03:30the afternoon. This rain is slowly clearing towards the southeast, but as I said, it will
03:35be a slow process. Now still quite a breeze in the north as well as the west, but
03:40not a bad day elsewhere away from the southeast. Temperatures coming in eight or nine degrees
03:45Celsius with some sunshine, but cloudier skies, as I said, towards more eastern counties.
03:51So that's the front clearing towards the low countries and then notice a ridge of high
03:56pressure extends from the south. With that, the air turns milder slowly but surely into
04:02Friday. Still a squeeze on the ice bars across more northern areas and this weather front
04:07here brings with it some really quite mild air through into the weekend. In fact, temperatures
04:13will be exceptionally mild for this time of year. Certainly by night you'll notice the
04:17difference. I'll see you later.
