14 December - National weather forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Remaining wintry over the next few days with the risk of snow and ice, and even through
00:10into the early hours of Wednesday morning, some freezing fog patches, but not as widespread
00:15as we have seen.
00:16Two features we're concerned about, the snow showers across northern Scotland will intensify
00:21with a strong wind here, the risk of ice where you see those showers, and this feature just
00:26running up towards the south-west through Tuesday evening and overnight into the early
00:31hours of Wednesday morning.
00:32As the rain hits the cold air, turning to snow, and we could see 5-10cm above around
00:37200m, add on the strength of the wind, some blizzard conditions here, but we could even
00:42see 1-2cm further north, anywhere from Hampshire, Dorset, towards Somerset, icy conditions
00:49if you're stepping out first thing on Wednesday morning.
00:52And icy pretty much anywhere where you've seen some showers.
00:55Inland though, 1-2 freezing fog patches, it's going to be a bitterly cold start to the day
01:00with a widespread and severe frost.
01:03So through the morning, the feature towards the south will retreat, so despite the fact
01:07you'll see slippery surfaces and a covering of snow for some, the sun eventually will
01:12come out through the afternoon as things dry up.
01:14But these snow showers will run down the eastern side of England towards even East Anglia as
01:19we head through into the afternoon.
01:21And some still moving towards Northern Ireland, and again, slippery surfaces here through
01:26the day with those wintry showers.
01:28The showers mostly of snow across Scotland, and again some accumulations, strong winds,
01:33and expect gales across Shetland through the first part of the morning to around mid-morning.
01:38And that driving wind continues to blow in at those showers, and those showers could
01:42actually have a rumble of thunder associated with them as well.
01:46Here are your temperatures.
01:47It's going to be bitterly cold, particularly exposed to that wind, feeling icy.
01:52So that's the picture on Wednesday.
01:55That snow and ice warning extends through Thursday as well as Friday across the north
01:59as well as the east of Scotland down towards northeast England.
02:02And through the early hours of Thursday morning, you can see clearer skies for the bulk of
02:07the country, and those snow showers just are relentless towards the north, running down
02:11the western and eastern side.
02:13So here's your cities list through Thursday.
02:16On the way of sunshine, a stronger wind blowing away all the cobwebs, all the mist and murk,
02:22but even so, despite the sunshine, it's going to feel so cold outside after a very frosty
02:27start.
02:28A similar situation on Friday, then all change into the weekend.
02:31Bye bye.
