00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05It's a windy night, a mild one with outbreaks of rain.
00:08There's a wind warning in place across central southern parts of Scotland,
00:12the eastern side of Northern Ireland, West Wales,
00:15particularly along this Irish Sea towards the North Channel.
00:18That's where gusts could reach an exposure 50 to 60 miles an hour,
00:21causing problems, particularly with the ferries.
00:24This deep area of low pressure here extends towards the far north of Scotland,
00:28so the winds will be picking up, particularly across Shetland,
00:30Auckland and northern parts of Scotland as we head through to Wednesday.
00:34The air then turns colder across the northern half of the UK further south.
00:37This area of cloud and rain will bring some heavy pulses
00:40and also stronger winds for a time before everywhere is bathed in this polar maritime air.
00:45Yes, it's a cold day on Thursday, at least though there'll be some sunshine
00:49and some wintry showers towards the north and the west.
00:52However, it's a very different story this evening.
00:54Notice there's a lot of cloud and rain
00:56and also that strong, driving southerly wind,
00:59which will be gusty, particularly towards the west there.
01:02Heavy pulses of rain embedded within this rain band,
01:05pushing ever northwards and eastwards.
01:07So we'll see some showery bits and pieces across central and eastern areas of England as well.
01:12Now, through the night, again, we could see another batch of heavy rain
01:16extending from Northern Ireland towards western and central parts of Scotland
01:20before the air turns colder towards the far northwest as we inherit that cold northerly wind,
01:25which will have some strength to it as well.
01:27So here's your warning zone for that wind.
01:29Notice temperatures around 8, 9, 10 degrees Celsius.
01:33Certainly for the north of the country, that will be the highest temperature through Wednesday,
01:37through the first part of the morning.
01:39Temperatures sliding away as that cold air intrudes and pushes ever southwards and eastwards.
01:45Through the morning, we'll see some rain,
01:47which could turn heavy for a time across Pennine districts before it just fizzles out.
01:50A lot of cloud, a little bit of showery bits and pieces further south,
01:54and then the cloud will break through the afternoon, allowing for some brighter weather
01:57before this batch of rain moves in across the west country, Wales, central southern England.
02:02At the same time, we'll see showers across northern and western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:06The cloud spills ahead of it as this rain extends towards northern England,
02:10much of central and southern parts of England.
02:12And here, yes, again, we could see the odd heavier downpour.
02:16Temperatures here, 10 to 13 Celsius, but a cold end to the day
02:19across more northern and western areas with that biting wind.
02:23We're expecting gales to develop across Shetland, perhaps just touching Orkney
02:27as we head through Wednesday night and into Thursday.
02:30At the same time, it's a wet night across England and Wales.
02:33Again, some heavy rain can't be ruled out.
02:35Strong winds along the south coast as it recedes down towards the southeast
02:39through the early hours of Thursday morning.
02:41At the same time, this cold northerly wind will produce some wintry showers,
02:45snow over the higher ground, and some clearer skies.
02:47So, sub-zero temperatures in shelter across Scotland through the first part of Thursday.
02:51But there will be some brighter weather through the day.
02:53The cloud just comes and goes across central and southern parts of England and Wales.
02:57And look at these temperatures.
02:58It's time to wrap up warm yet again, 5 or 6 degrees Celsius.
03:03Now, here's an outlook for you through Thursday and into Friday.
03:07As you can see, we're bathed in those blues.
03:10The wind slowly eases through the latter part of Thursday, so a cold night to come.
03:15And then into Friday, this weather system here extends from the northwest
03:19down towards the southeast.
03:21Again, some showery bursts of rain are likely.
03:23So, all in all, yes, a cold intrusion of air just for a time before things turn wet and windy again.
03:28I'll see you later.
