00:00Hello there welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met
00:03Office. It's a bitterly cold start to the day with a widespread frost. There were
00:07warnings through this morning for snow and ice across northern, western and the
00:11northeastern part of Scotland. Those snow showers continue with further
00:14accumulations. A few running down towards Northern Ireland as well as the
00:18far northwest of England, northern parts of Wales. Where we've seen snow and snow
00:23showers through the last few days, also the risk of ice particularly on this
00:27eastern side. But many areas getting away with a dry morning, a crisp one.
00:31Towards the southwest though it's a different story. Overnight we've seen
00:35this rain arrive. It's only slowly pushing its way and northeastwards. The
00:39extent is limited. But notice there's some snow on its northern edge,
00:43particularly over the moors, over the high ground. But even at lower levels
00:46just for a time the air is that cold towards the north of this rain band. The
00:51winds will pick up as well. So some tricky driving through this morning into
00:55this afternoon. The whole feature will slide down towards the south as we head
00:59through the day. Now elsewhere it's mostly dry, although these showers will
01:05continue through the morning across coastal districts. And penetrating in
01:10land as well where we see those stronger winds. A mix of rain and snow along the
01:14coast. In land, yes it will be snow. The frost will slowly lift from the ground
01:19where you see the sunshine through the morning into the afternoon. But this
01:23feature here will run down towards the North Channel through the afternoon,
01:27extending towards Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland, the far northwest of
01:30England. Later at the same time further rain and snow showers towards the
01:33northeast of Scotland. Again pushing ever southwards across the North Sea.
01:39Temperatures well below average for this time of year. And across the snowfields
01:42of Scotland we're expecting values to remain sub-zero. So a very cold day here.
01:47Chilly elsewhere, at least though you'll see some sunshine. Now through this
01:51evening and overnight that rain recedes and showers continue across coastal
01:56districts. But they may penetrate towards Wales as well as the West Midlands
02:00through the night. And again we'll see some wintriness here. Winds pick up along
02:04the east coast into Friday morning. A scattered affair when it comes to
02:08showers towards the north as we lose the wind here. And after a frosty start
02:12you'll see some fine weather, some sunshine, a lighter wind as well which
02:15is good news. However through Friday night into Saturday this system moves in.
02:21Rain preceded by some snow. So we could see some travel disruption associated
02:25with it. Gales as well. And some high rainfall totals towards Wales as well as
02:30the West Country. Rainfall warnings are in force here through Saturday. And then
02:34eventually we'll see showers on Sunday and into Monday it looks like this.
02:39Remaining unsettled with further strong winds and further heavy showers. A
02:43little detail for you then on Saturday. We hang on to the cold air across
02:48Scotland until much later on into Sunday. So that rain will be snow for a
02:52time. Elsewhere outbreaks of rain which will be heavy. Watch out for those gales
02:56and blustery showers to follow on Sunday. Wherever you are take care. And if you
03:00want more details about our 10-day outlook check out our 10-day trend. This
03:05week it's with Alex Deakin. I'll see you later.
