00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Successive bands of rain and wind will move from the north-west, weakening as they head
00:09down towards the south-east over the next few days.
00:12Here's your current situation, high pressure sitting towards the south of the UK, low pressure
00:17towards the north and a real squeeze on the isobars, meaning severe gales with a wind
00:21warning force for the far north of Scotland through Wednesday night into the first part
00:25of Thursday morning.
00:26This is the band of cloud and rain, this cold front here with colder air behind but
00:30also some clearer conditions.
00:31But it will be a wet evening on Wednesday across southern Scotland, Northern Ireland
00:35and Northern England, some strong winds but the really strong winds will be up towards
00:39the far north with severe gales and also high waves and a rash of showers here, wintry over
00:45the high ground, some hail even at lower levels.
00:47As further south, southern parts of England and Wales, central areas seeing more cloud
00:52to start the day on Thursday and also some patchy rain and drizzle, quite a murky morning
00:56but it will clear, clearing down towards the near continent so some brighter skies.
01:00Now through the afternoon, the winds will lose their sting, still very windy towards
01:04the north-east and the showers will lose their intensity so some drier skies and also some
01:10sunshine to end Thursday.
01:12But overnight through Thursday and into Friday, with the winds falling light, we'll again
01:17see a fairly widespread frost cold start to the day on Friday away from the far north-west
01:23of Scotland, temperatures holding up here with more wind as well as more cloud.
01:28So a bright start to the day on Thursday but it will be chilly if you are stepping outside.
01:33Let me now take you back to the bigger picture through Thursday and into Friday.
01:37High pressure exerts some influence on Friday but notice this weather front towards the
01:42far north eventually sinking its way southwards into the weekend, bringing with it milder
01:46conditions for a time, stronger winds and outbreaks of rain.
01:50And again, things do improve into the latter part of Saturday but turning wet and windy
01:55on Sunday.
01:56So here's your cities list for Friday.
01:58Notice the temperatures 9 or 10 degrees Celsius, generating a lot of cloud, milder as we head
02:03through to Saturday and some brighter skies emerging for a time as the clouds and some
02:07patchy rain clears towards the south but temperatures could reach around 11 to 13 degrees Celsius
02:12and watch out for the winds and some heavy rain on Sunday.
02:15Obviously we'll keep you posted here at the Met Office on all our social media channels.
02:20Thanks for watching.
02:21Have a great day.
