00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's a very windy day today with wind warnings in force across the northern half of the UK.
00:09For the far north of Scotland, gusts could reach through the day 75 to 85 mph,
00:14associated with this weather front coming in from the north-west.
00:17Further south, covering the rest of Scotland, down towards Cumbria and Northumberland,
00:21North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, as well as the far north of Northern Ireland.
00:24Gusts inland, 45 mph along the coast, over the higher ground, up to 65 mph.
00:29So, some damaging winds through today, associated with the deep airy flow pressure,
00:33which is well to the north of the country.
00:35Even so, it's still producing some heavy rain across central and western areas of Scotland
00:39through the first part of this morning.
00:41Rain also for Shetland, as well as Orkney.
00:43Further east, cloudy skies, southern Scotland, as well as Northern Ireland.
00:47Northern England seeing a lot of cloud, and Wales, but from mid Wales towards the Midlands,
00:51eastern counts of England, even down towards the west country,
00:55we're seeing lower temperatures and some patchy frost.
00:57And you could even run into some mist and fog first thing.
01:01At least, though, despite a cold start across these parts,
01:04you'll see some hazy sunshine first thing,
01:06before the cloud gradually rolls in through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:10So, it's wet and windy across Scotland through this morning.
01:14You can see the heaviest rain always towards the west,
01:16but it does extend eastwards and southwards,
01:19reaching the central belt around mid-morning,
01:22and then sweeping across Northern Ireland.
01:25Now, you can see the back edge of the main rain band,
01:28that's where the strongest winds will be.
01:30So, you'll see the rain, it'll be windy,
01:32and then those winds will pick up even further.
01:35So, through the morning into the afternoon,
01:37you'll see the first of the rain arriving across northern counties of England.
01:40Further south, that hazy sunshine will tend to fade.
01:43You could even see some dampness towards the west country,
01:45as the rain clears Northern Ireland through the afternoon
01:48and pushes in across northern parts of Wales.
01:51In its wake, blustery showers across Scotland,
01:53a strong wind still here,
01:55and even some wintriness over the higher ground,
01:57and a cloudy and windy end to the day
01:59across central and southern parts of England and Wales,
02:02with that rain sitting over northern England
02:04and the far south of Northern Ireland.
02:06So, around rush hour this evening,
02:09you can see where the rain is.
02:10Wales, the Midlands, eastern counties, east Anglia,
02:13and it slides down towards southern counties
02:15through the evening and overnight.
02:16Even the odd heavier pulse can't be ruled out towards the far southeast.
02:20And then clear skies, a slight ridge,
02:22the winds ease a little bit,
02:23even the risk of some frost yet again across England and Wales
02:27through until Thursday morning.
02:29More clouds and some showers continue
02:31across northern and western parts of Scotland,
02:33and again that driving wind across Orkney
02:35as well as Shetland and Caithness.
02:37So, through Thursday morning,
02:40a cold start across many areas
02:42and some hazy sunshine.
02:44Thickening cloud will bring some outbreaks of rain
02:46associated with this warm front,
02:48and still a strong wind here,
02:49but coming in from a mild direction through Thursday,
02:52that rain covering northern and central parts of Scotland.
02:54Patchy rain towards more southern parts of Scotland,
02:57Northern Ireland, the far north of England.
03:00And then we're pretty much in warm sector conditions into Friday,
03:03but notice gusty winds across the Highlands,
03:06the Pennines, the Welsh Mountains,
03:08even the higher ground of Northern Ireland through Friday.
03:11A ridge towards the south,
03:13but yet still strong winds across the north
03:16as well as the west,
03:17but with the cloud we'll always see some patchy rain and drizzle,
03:20and the rain will intensify from time to time.
03:22And then some colder air sort of extending down towards the far north,
03:25but never reaching the south.
03:26I'll see you later.
