00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you. It's the final day of 2024 and no
00:05surprises, low pressure in charge with a number of weather warnings in force. We
00:10have rain turning to snow across Scotland pushing ever northwards.
00:13Blizzard conditions likely as the winds pick up across the far north. An amber
00:17warning for rain, more about that in a moment across the northeast of Scotland
00:21and it's windy across Northern Ireland, central and southern parts of Scotland
00:25also down towards the northeast. As we head through today we'll see a rain
00:29warning kick in across the western side of Wales as well as the northwest of
00:34England. Some high rainfall totals here. The air then turns colder from the north.
00:37Snow and ice associated with some wintry showers and towards the south. Yes a
00:42windy start to 2025 with some strong gusts as the air streams southwards and
00:48turns colder. Let's pick up on that amber warning. So it's an amber warning for
00:53rain. Already we've seen around 60, 70, 80 millimeters of rain. More rain likely
00:58today and that could cause some property flooding as we see any snow turn back to
01:04rain later as well. So here's your warning anywhere from Inverness towards
01:08Fort William also extending towards Carbridge and Aviemore. Now as we head
01:13through this morning you can see where the heaviest most persistent rain is
01:16Scotland with those strong winds. Showery across mainland Scotland and the rain
01:20extends from southern Scotland, northern England. It's clearing Northern Ireland
01:24but it continues to bump in and out of the province with some showers towards
01:28the north. To the south this morning it's a cloudy start. It's also a breezy
01:32one. Windy in the north and very windy across the far north of Scotland. So
01:37backtrack to 6 a.m. you can see where the rain was. Wet and windy for Northern
01:41Ireland, Scotland and Northern England. Heading south we can see it's pushing
01:45ever southwards towards Yorkshire and then Lancashire, the far north of Wales,
01:49Lincolnshire eventually as we head through into the afternoon. Turning
01:53showery across much of Scotland but we hang on to that persistent rain across
01:57the far north of Scotland with those strong winds and rain and snow for
02:01Shetland. This rain then stores across much of Wales as well as Northern
02:05England hence the reason why that rain warning kicks in later on through this
02:09evening and overnight. So it's a windy day, it's very windy in the north and
02:13that rain also causing problems with the risk of flooding particularly across the
02:17northeast of Scotland. But that rain warning expires at 5 p.m. today. Now if
02:24you are stepping out through New Year's Eve, some dry weather in the south but
02:27it is windy. That rain will continue across Yorkshire down towards northern
02:32parts of Wales, Cheshire and then the far north Midlands. This rain here it's
02:38showery and it's turning to snow across the far north as the rain continues and
02:42becomes really quite heavy in places across Wales, northwest England but
02:46extends towards Lincolnshire, the Midlands down towards the West Country
02:49into New Year's Day. So a wet and windy start to the day across central and
02:53southern parts of England and Wales and gusty winds with that strong and gusty
02:57winds particularly along the coast and associated with the back edge of this
03:00front. Elsewhere yes snow showers continue to stream in and the air turns
03:04colder from New Year's Day and into Thursday. Thursday the 2nd of January as
03:10well as the 3rd. Still strong winds for a time and again some snow showers,
03:14sub-zero temperatures by night so it's going to feel very cold with the risk of
03:18frost as well as ice. So this is how we see the beginning of 2025. It's time to
03:23wrap up warm but before that take care. Remember there's strong winds out there
03:27also the risk of that snow as well as rain, the risk of flooding. Here's your
03:31outlook through Thursday. You'll see some sunshine as well as one or two
03:35wintry showers. I'll see you later.
