00:00Hello there, welcome to your Tuesday evening weather update from the Met
00:04Office. Tuesday night will be cold yet again as rain slowly clears towards
00:09England and Wales and eases. Let's pick up on some detail, well it has been a
00:13chilly day today. This is the weather front bringing cloud, rain and hill snow
00:18above around 300 metres. As it clears the air turns colder, the risk of ice across
00:23central and eastern areas of Scotland. Into Wednesday all change, this area of
00:28low pressure brings severe gales towards the northwest of Scotland. Gales
00:31elsewhere and also some outbreaks of rain and more rain which could be heavy
00:35into Thursday. Yet again those winds will pick up before the air turns colder from
00:40the northwest. All change through Friday as more cloud and rain arrives across
00:45England and Wales. So let's pick up on some detail through the next 24 hours.
00:51You can see where this band of rain is, hill snow above around 300 metres. It's
00:57clearing quite swiftly across Northern Ireland as well as Scotland, pushing down
01:01towards Northern England through the latter part of the evening. In its wake
01:04yes we'll see some showers, a bit blustery towards the far northwest. This
01:09rain then extends towards the far north of Wales, the Isle of Man you'll see that
01:13clear, patchy rain across the northwest of England into the early hours of
01:18Wednesday morning and a legacy of cloud continues across the Midlands, eastern
01:22counties of England down towards central parts as we head through the first part
01:26of Wednesday morning as any rain across the central and western part of Wales
01:30fizzles out. The other feature of the weather will be freezing fog particularly
01:34across Northern Ireland and an icy start to the day across Scotland. A frost
01:38elsewhere particularly in the countryside where you see those clearer
01:41skies. So it's a cold morning, watch out for that ice first thing. This warning
01:46goes out to 10 a.m. and the cloud will come and go through the day on Wednesday
01:51making the sunshine rather hazy but it's a quiet start with a light wind. Any
01:56fog gradually lifting across Northern Ireland as we see the first of the rain
02:00filaments of that wet weather extending from Northern Ireland towards Western
02:03Scotland through the afternoon and then those winds pick up some strength across
02:07Irish seacoast, the North Channel, the western side of Scotland. The rain then
02:11turns heavy as we head through into Wednesday evening. We hang on to some dry
02:15weather particularly across England as temperatures struggle to six or seven
02:19but milder towards the west Northern Ireland down towards the West Country.
02:23This wind warning then through Wednesday evening for the northwest that's where
02:28the centre of the low is. Severe gales here, gales elsewhere particularly along
02:31the coast and the winds will actually pick up across the eastern side of
02:34Scotland into the early hours of Thursday morning as that rain extends
02:38down across England and Wales through the first part of Thursday. So expect
02:42some wet weather to start the day across central, eastern and southeastern areas
02:46of England and again it's a windy start to the day. A different feel to things
02:49though. Temperatures will be higher, there will be some cloud around before more
02:53rain arrives and swiftly moves in across Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,
02:57northwest England, Wales and the West Country and again some strong winds but
03:01this rain could be heavy particularly across the northwest of England as well
03:04as Western Scotland. So all in all yes our weather remains changeable, it's
03:09unsettled and more rain expected across more central and southern parts on Friday.
03:13Take care and I'll see you again soon.
