00:00A snow and ice warning has been issued for Scotland for Friday. This time the
00:05emphasis is further west across central and southern areas. More about that in a
00:10moment. Now for the time being let me remind you of the warnings currently in
00:14force across the country. We have a snow and ice warning covering much of
00:18Shetland, Orkney, northern Scotland and just clipping the far northeast of
00:22England. Further south you can see this ice warning extending towards Norfolk
00:27and another one through Wednesday night and into Thursday morning for Northern
00:31Ireland. All associated with showers and most of the showers will be of snow
00:35along the coast, rain and snow. So let's pick up on these showers just pushing
00:40down on an Arctic blast. It's bitterly cold outside. We saw severe gales across
00:46Shetland earlier today. That's Wednesday morning but now the winds are easing
00:50just a little bit even so it's still very very windy outside. And they'll be
00:55delivering showers, snow showers across the northern and eastern side of
00:58Scotland down towards northeast England and some moving down the western side
01:02of Scotland towards Northern Ireland. A mix of hail and snow here. Now in land
01:07temperatures plummeting, a bitterly cold night. Watch out for ice and a severe
01:12frost as you wake up and step out on Thursday morning. You can see these snow
01:15showers just clipping the eastern side of England. Expect some accumulations
01:20here, certainly slippery surfaces and a rash of showers moving towards the far
01:24north of Northern Ireland and penetrating further inland. Now through
01:28the day the showers across the north of Scotland will become more scattered even
01:32so it's still breezy outside. It's still very cold and across the snowfields of
01:37Scotland that's where we'll see temperatures struggle to get above
01:39freezing. Generally speaking only around one or two three degrees Celsius, perhaps
01:44slightly milder towards the far south. There will be a breezy day, a bright one
01:49with some good spells of sunshine. Now let's return to that warning on Friday
01:53covering much of central, southern and western parts of Scotland. It's all
01:58courtesy of an area of cloud and rain, this time coming in from the west and
02:03as that rain hits the cold air it will readily turn to snow. So above around 200
02:08meters north of the central belt we could see up to 5-10 centimetres of snow.
02:12Further south across the southern uplands up to around 8 centimetres and
02:15even at lower levels. It will also clip the far north of Northern Ireland again
02:20a mix of rain and snow here but could see some disruption particularly across
02:24the central belt of Scotland as we head into rush hour on Friday morning. That's
02:28snow extending towards just south of Inverness and further east towards
02:32Dundee as well as Edinburgh. Now here's your city's list for Friday. Brighter
02:37skies further south across much of England and Wales. It's going to be
02:40another fine day, a bitterly cold one at least though you will see some sunny
02:43spells. And here's your outlook into the weekend, all change. Certainly on Sunday
02:48we'll see some wet and windy conditions come in and again the risk of snow
02:52particularly of the high ground across the north. Now if you want to know
02:55anything about the weather beyond the weekend check out our 10-day trend this
03:00week presented by Alex Deakin.
