00:00Hello there, welcome to your Friday morning forecast from the Met Office.
00:04Now today, winds are still a feature of the weather, but we will see gales across the
00:08north east of Scotland, all courtesy of a deep area of low pressure.
00:12It's slow moving, delivering strong winds towards this part of the country.
00:16Elsewhere it's breezy, with more cloud just drifting across the sky and some showery bursts
00:21of rain.
00:22Later on though, a slight ridge moves in from the west.
00:25This represents more settled and quieter conditions, and you'll notice the difference through
00:29Friday night.
00:31Things do settle down slightly before the next batch of wet and windy weather comes
00:34in from the west on Saturday.
00:36Before that though, strong winds towards the north of Scotland, showers, a mix of rain
00:40and snow over the higher ground, and also some hail.
00:43More rain showers across the western side of Scotland, and then we run into more cloud
00:46for Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, South West Scotland, Northern Council of England,
00:50some showery bursts.
00:51Mid Wales towards East Anglia, the south east, mostly dry here, some clearer skies to start
00:55the day.
00:57But a strong wind will deliver further showers across the south west of England, as well
01:01as southern counties of Wales.
01:03So you can see there's quite a lot of weather going on.
01:06The winds aren't as strong as the last few days, away from the north and north east of
01:10Scotland, where they're likely to pick up to gale force, if not severe gale force, as
01:14we head through the day.
01:15And again, a rash of showers moving in.
01:17Elsewhere, this cloud and rain continues across Northern Ireland, the far south of Scotland,
01:23But for central belt of Scotland, you should see some drier conditions, as more showers
01:28gather across central and southern parts of England and Wales, moving from the south west
01:33towards the east.
01:34And these will band together to produce one or two more intense downpours through the
01:38afternoon.
01:39Either side of this, some brighter skies, so I'd say north Wales, perhaps places such
01:45as Lincolnshire, Northumberland, up towards border regions, some drier weather.
01:50But notice across the far north, high waves here, gales, and also some showery bursts
01:55of rain, which will be relentless cold in that wind.
01:59Still mild towards the far south, 11 degrees Celsius.
02:02But through Friday evening and overnight, yes, some residual showers continue.
02:07It's still lively across the far north east of Scotland, with showery bursts of rain.
02:11But notice a frost forms, certainly that will be the case across Scotland, the far north
02:15of England, even temporarily across Northern Ireland.
02:19But across the snow fields of Scotland, we could see temperatures as low as minus 6,
02:22minus 7 degrees Celsius, and much colder across central and eastern areas of England, mid-Wales
02:28as we head through into the early hours of Saturday morning, before clouds streams ahead
02:32of this next weather system.
02:34The winds will then pick up some strength, but if you're stepping out first thing on
02:37Saturday, you could see some sunshine, but it's going to be very cold indeed.
02:42Now through the morning on Saturday, this area of cloud and rain could turn to snow
02:47temporarily across Northern Ireland as well as Wales, before it pushes in across that
02:51cold air across northern and central parts of the country.
02:55So yes, the risk of some snow yet again through Saturday across the far north of England and
03:00much of Scotland, seeing some snow for a time before it turns back to rain later.
03:05But certainly over the higher ground, expect more accumulations and the risk of some travel
03:09disruption as this band of rain moves in and it's going to be heavy with strong winds.
03:14It does clear off the scenes, so New Year's Eve will look like this, a bit of cloud, a
03:19few showers around, rather breezy as well, and as we head into New Year's Day, it does
03:24quieten down, it will be rather chilly, but a little sunshine to start the first of January.
03:29I'll see you later.
