00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. Mostly dry through Friday
00:04across many areas, although a fair amount of cloud towards more northern and western
00:08areas. Brighter skies towards the south-east, wetter weather towards the north-west. Now
00:12high pressure has never been too far away, exerting an influence into the early hours
00:16of Friday morning. Ice bars opening up, some mist and fog, low cloud in the south and some
00:21frost. At the same time, these ice bars gathering towards the north-west through Friday, meaning
00:27some stronger winds, more cloud and also some outbreaks of rain. First of all though, Thursday
00:32evening, some showers lurking across the far north of Scotland. Elsewhere, under the influence
00:36of high pressure, a lighter breeze. Watch out for mist and fog in the south, some low
00:40cloud and temperatures falling close to freezing if not below. So fairly widespread frost here,
00:45pockets of frost further north-east across England, even eastern parts of Scotland through
00:49the first part of the night before more cloud arrives across Northern Ireland and Western
00:53Scotland and the winds pick up some strength. So first thing then on Friday morning, bright
00:58for some, particularly England and Wales, eastern Scotland seeing some brighter weather
01:02but certainly some sunshine down towards the south-east, any mist and fog lifting around
01:06mid-morning. You can see there's rain though moving up towards the Northern Isles, covering
01:10much of Caithness and Sutherland. But the wind direction is loaded with moisture, a
01:14lot of cloud delivering, lots of low cloud, rain and drizzle to the western highlands
01:18through the day. And then we'll see some brighter weather to end the day across East Anglia,
01:22central southern England as well as the south-east. Temperatures typically coming in around 9
01:26to 11 degrees Celsius and certainly you will notice the difference if you're stepping
01:30out on Friday evening. Relatively mild for the end of January but certainly will be damp
01:36in places, a lot of thick cloud around and eventually the winds will pick up even further
01:41as the rain intensifies towards the north-west of the country. So expect gales into Saturday
01:47morning as this band of cloud and rain slowly slides down to these parts. Elsewhere, yes
01:52Saturday morning will dawn cloudy with some patchy rain and drizzle, particularly over
01:56the higher routes. So let's just pick up on that weather through the weekend. On Saturday
02:01morning, very windy in the north with gales as this weather front sinks down towards the
02:06south. And then again a ridge of high pressure exerts its influence from the south-west,
02:10so fairly widespread frost into Sunday morning before this system skirts up towards the north
02:16and again the risk of gales, even severe gales for a time and also some quite heavy rain.
02:21So backtrack to Saturday, here's your afternoon cities list. Cloud outbreaks, rain temperatures
02:2712 to 13 degrees Celsius, a cold night to come into Sunday. Brighter skies on Sunday
02:32towards the south-east, feeling a bit colder. Watch out for rain and wind in the north.
02:36I'll see you later. Bye bye for now.
