00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning forecast from the Met Office. Today, heavy
00:05showers, there'll be blustery and we'll see a strong wind yet again. Yes, this wind persists
00:11after a very windy Wednesday. If you are stepping out first thing across Scotland, watch out
00:16for some more persistent rain across the far north and northwest. A cluster of showers
00:20continues across western and central parts of Scotland, with some snow over the higher
00:24ground. To the east of higher ground you could see some dry skies to start the day, but frequent
00:29showers for Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and further showers likely through the
00:33morning across England and Wales, driven in with a strong southwest wind coming in from
00:38a relatively mild direction. And what will happen through today, you'll see these banded
00:43showers on either side, you'll see some drier interludes, perhaps even a hint of blue sky.
00:49So through Thursday morning, yes again we'll see high waves and rough seas. The winds continue
00:55strong. This area of rain continues across the far north and these showers will move
01:01across the country. But notice they're heavy and they're slow moving across more central
01:05areas and what that means more wet weather to come. So some tricky driving conditions
01:10if you are travelling across the country through Thursday. And notice further south, these
01:14showers become more banded together, more coherent structure to them. So through the
01:19afternoon this is actually a band of heavier rain which will move from Finland's Severn
01:25Estuary down towards the far southeast through the afternoon. Fresh to strong winds across
01:30England and Wales, but winds will touch Galeforce across the far north of Scotland and in between
01:35a strong near Galeforce wind, particularly across the western side of Scotland with further
01:39showers likely. And temperatures struggling in the north, you could see double figures
01:43further south. But through Thursday evening, watch out for some heavier pulses before that
01:49rain clears off the scene. And then we're really in a showery regime again. However,
01:55through the night more showers will slide in across Northern Ireland, the central belt
01:59of Scotland, southern parts of Scotland, far north of England. At the same time, gales
02:03continue across Shetland, Orkney and Caithness, clipping the top of Aberdeenshire. But these
02:10showers across Northern Ireland will turn heavy through the early hours of the morning.
02:14At the same time, despite a few showers towards more western and southern facing coasts across
02:18England and Wales, you should see some dry interludes to start the day, even some sunshine
02:24as the sun rises through the morning. Northern England always seeing some showery bursts
02:28and yes, that wind will be relentless through Friday across the far north and northeast
02:33of Scotland where the rain will move in and it's likely to turn to snow yet again. So
02:38some wintriness and certainly snow accumulating over the higher ground. So we have that strong
02:43wind, rain and snow across the northeast of Scotland and then some showers across the
02:48bulk of Scotland, more persistent showery rain across Northern England as well as Northern
02:52Ireland and further south, some brighter weather but a few showers as well. Come Friday, the
02:57air is relatively cold across the UK before more cloud and rain moves in from the southwest.
03:03As the rain hits the cold air across Scotland, there is a snow risk. So some wet and windy
03:07weather to come and this rain will turn heavy. However, come New Year's Eve, the last day
03:12of 2023, it ends on a showery note. What a surprise. So yes, another blustery day with
03:19further showers likely into New Year's Day. Showers continue pushing northwards and then
03:25more moderate air comes in from the southwest with some outbreaks of rain. Your outlook
03:30then through Saturday, it's rain or showers, cold in the north, temperatures still hanging
03:34on to double figures further south wherever you are. Take care and I'll see you soon.
