00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:03The source of the air across the UK is coming from the Arctic, hence the reason why it will
00:07remain bitterly cold through the next few days and into the weekend, with a fairly widespread
00:12and severe frost, the risk of ice, as well as those snow showers.
00:16So let's have a look at the warnings for the next 24 hours.
00:19We have snow showers running in on a cold wind across central and northern areas of
00:23Scotland so expect ice here and also blowing snow with that strong wind, poor visibility
00:27particularly on the higher routes, and where you see showers on the eastern side of the
00:31country as well as the west, that's where we'll see ice overnight into Thursday so expect
00:36some slippery surfaces.
00:38So through Wednesday evening a feed of those showers running in on that strong wind, further
00:43east we'll see an enhancement of those showers overnight across eastern Scotland down towards
00:47the north east of England and again over higher ground they'll turn to snow.
00:52Further west yes a mix of rain and sleet showers running down towards Northern Ireland, a fairly
00:56widespread frost, look at these temperatures dipping down to minus 5 Celsius across the
01:00snow fields of Scotland though, we could see values as low as minus 6 to minus 8.
01:06So a bitterly cold start to the day but for some it will be dry and bright and remaining
01:12so throughout the day.
01:14However you can see these showers running down the eastern side and some tracking in
01:18towards Northern Ireland, clipping West Wales as well as the West Country and that batch
01:22associated with the occlusion across the north east of England again bringing with
01:27it enhancement of those showers which will turn wintry anywhere inland.
01:31But we'll see the showers ease a little bit across Northern Scotland through the afternoon
01:36with a chance of seeing some sunshine and sunshine elsewhere, wherever you are though
01:40temperatures will only reach around 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, mildest towards the southwest
01:45and even here you'll see those showers continue through the day.
01:48So that's the picture on Thursday.
01:51Here are your warning zones for Friday, again where you see those showers we will see the
01:57risk of ice, Northern England, Eastern England, Northern Ireland, Northwest England down towards
02:02West Wales as well as the West Country and a continuation of the feed of showers across
02:07central and northern areas of Scotland, again it will be a mix of sleet near the coast and
02:12snow inland certainly at higher levels.
02:15So through Thursday evening it's going to be colder than Wednesday evening, again temperatures
02:20plummeting very quickly.
02:21So the strong wind across Orkney as well as Shetland delivering a lot of showers here
02:26and they will funnel down towards the north east of Scotland as well as the northwest
02:30running down towards Northern Ireland as well as West Wales towards the West Country.
02:35So generally the picture is showery along the coast, inland it will be mostly dry and
02:39cold with some sunshine but wherever you are you'll see those temperatures really struggle.
02:44A severe frost into the weekend, the risk of further wintry showers but also some brighter
02:49skies coming through.
02:50Bye bye.
