00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04The risk of heavy rain, snow and ice are through today. Lots of weather to
00:09contend with if you are travelling. And the risk of ice and some snow showers
00:14continues across Scotland. We have a broad yellow warning for snow across
00:18northern England extending down towards the North Midlands and covering mid and
00:22northern parts of Wales. Also a snow and ice warning for Northern Ireland. Now
00:26this amber warning across the higher ground of Wales translates to some
00:31higher levels of snow up to 25 centimetres in places. A similar
00:34situation for Staffordshire, Derbyshire as well as West and South Yorkshire. And
00:40again the risk of some drifting snow could be a problem through the day. A
00:43yellow warning for rain also across more southern counties of England as well as
00:47the south east of Wales. So lots of challenging weather out there if you are
00:52travelling through this morning. And certainly is a bitterly cold start to
00:56the day across Scotland. But many areas dry with some hazy sunshine. A dry start
01:01for Northern Ireland. Thickening cloud you'll find the wind will pick up some
01:04strength. Northern counties of England also seeing some haziness through the
01:08morning with some brighter weather before this cloud and rain moves in with
01:12snow. Already though heavy rain towards more southern areas. A strong wind, poor
01:16visibility on the roads there with surface water and that snow over the
01:20higher ground of Wales as well as the West Midlands. So some yes some
01:26challenging weather if you are travelling. So through the morning we
01:29watch as this band of rain continues to move northwards and then it turns to
01:34snow across the Midlands and then Northern England. By around lunchtime
01:37we'll see that cloud thicken enough to produce some rain and snow also across
01:42Northern Ireland. Over the higher ground yes the risk of this snow could cause
01:46problems yet again. But also through the day we could see snow at lower levels
01:51from the Midlands northwards. So problems with slippery surfaces and certainly
01:56poor visibility where you see any intense bursts. The rain clears across
02:00southern parts of England through the afternoon before more wet weather
02:04awaiting the wings later on in the day. And we hang on to some drier weather
02:08across the far north of England as well as Scotland away from those snow showers
02:12across the far north. Wherever you are it's a cold day across the far south
02:16though temperatures holding up 11 or 12 degrees Celsius. But through evening time
02:20this snow would have reached the North Pennines covering most of Northern
02:25Ireland. A mix of rain pushing in from the south there. A strong wind and the
02:28winds will pick up from the east across Scotland as well. As this warning for
02:32snow and ice covers central and southern parts of Scotland overnight as the whole
02:36system slowly marches northwards. Heavy showery bursts will follow across more
02:42areas into the early hours of Friday morning and some showery bursts of rain
02:47continues with snow over the higher ground by this point across Pennine
02:51districts moving up towards border regions. So it could be just about a dry
02:55start to the day across some parts of Scotland central and northern areas
02:59certainly. Still wintry showers across the far north but through Friday this
03:03rain sleet and snow moves towards central parts. So yes again there'll be a
03:08risk particularly if you're traveling and over the higher ground. Showery
03:12bursts of rain continue across England and Wales and this rain will be
03:16persistent across eastern counters of England down towards East Anglia through
03:19the morning into the afternoon extending towards the Isle of Man as well as
03:23Northern Ireland with some outbreaks of rain through the afternoon. Strong winds
03:27for the far north of Scotland through the day and you can see this wind will
03:30be relentless across the eastern side of Scotland northeast England. Wherever you
03:34are it's a relatively cold day but the trend is for our weather to turn milder
03:39through the weekend always a chance of rain or showers though. I'll see you
03:42later have a lovely day.
