00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office.
00:04A transition from mild to cold over the next 24 hours as an active cold front delivers
00:08heavy rain and gales as it moves from the north-west down towards the south-east.
00:12So we can pick up on that cold front there.
00:14Ahead of it, the air remains mild through Thursday evening and then if you're waking
00:18up in the south-east on Friday morning, some heavy rain before it turns clearer and colder
00:22from the north.
00:23Winter showers to follow across more northern and western areas.
00:27Now that's not the case through Wednesday evening, a lot of cloud.
00:30Some rain particularly across the western Highlands, damp, exposed to the southwest
00:33wind but some dry skies across much of England and Wales, leading into a mild start to the
00:38day.
00:39On Thursday, a fair amount of cloud.
00:41Some favoured moments for sunshine will be the Midlands, East and Counties of England.
00:45At the same time, always more cloud coming in across the north-west and through the afternoon.
00:49This is that front coming in towards the western side of Scotland and the winds will pick up
00:53to gales, perhaps even severe gales in exposure through the latter part of the day with some
00:57strong gusts.
00:59So this is that rain.
01:00Now behind that, the air is a lot colder.
01:02So as this rain pushes down towards Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, you can
01:06see a little bit of snow on its back edge.
01:09So one to two centimetres above around 300 metres just for a time as it sweeps down towards
01:13the south-east through the early hours of Friday morning with wintry showers to follow
01:17and again the risk of snow above around two to three hundred metres.
01:21So that's the picture on Friday morning.
01:23Through Friday morning into the afternoon, many areas towards the south and the east
01:26will see some sunshine, a cold and biting wind towards the north as well as the east.
01:31Icy conditions here, particularly later on as the temperatures tumble and also that feed
01:36of showers.
01:37Again, a mix of rain, sleet, hail and snow, certainly snow over the higher ground.
01:42And then here's an overview of what's happening into the weekend.
01:45Slightly milder air comes in on Saturday, again more cloud and outbreaks of rain and
01:50then again we'll see that colder air just for a time on Sunday.
01:53It turns milder into the beginning of next week.
01:56So pretty much a repeat performance.
01:58Yes, our weather remains very mobile with a switch from cold to mild and always the
02:03chance of strong winds and outbreaks of rain.
02:05Bye bye.
