00:00Hello there. Some brighter skies for a time on Wednesday before more cloud and rain arrives
00:05from the west. Before that though, a cold night into Wednesday morning with the risk
00:10of frost. We're still under the influence of high pressure, which has been with us for
00:15pretty much a week or so, but it is waning towards the east as we head through to Wednesday,
00:20allowing some slightly milder air to come up from the southwest, but also bands of cloud,
00:25rain and some stronger winds from time to time. However, lurking towards the far north
00:30of the country, some colder air, and we'll come back to that situation in a moment. For
00:35the time being though, that's Tuesday into Wednesday. It's a cold one. There will be
00:40holes in the clouds as we head through the night, so some starry skies. Still a few showers
00:45across the far north of Scotland, that's where it will be dry, and temperatures falling quite
00:49quickly, so expect a fairly widespread frost across Scotland, some parts of England as
00:53well as Wales. Further west though, you can see here a keen breeze, more in the way of
00:58clouds, keeping temperatures slightly higher, so here we'll see values come in around 4,
01:035, 6 degrees Celsius. Lowest temperatures will be the Cairngorms of Scotland, where
01:08we could see temperatures down to around minus 5, minus 6 Celsius, certainly sub zero across
01:12many areas across England and Wales. So a frosty start to the day for Scotland on Wednesday,
01:19but with some hazy sunshine, not a bad start, some brightness in the air. Always more cloud
01:24for Northern Ireland, but you can see here, brighter weather extends down across England
01:29and Wales, a lighter breeze here, not the case for Irish Seacoast, quite a keen wind
01:34coming up from the south. So through Wednesday morning, we watch as cloud thickens across
01:39Northern Ireland, and eventually we'll see the onset of some wet weather pushing in from
01:44the south-west. Elsewhere, it's a dry morning, yes one or two showers across the far north
01:49of Scotland elsewhere, see some brighter weather coming through, but the cloud will slowly
01:53thicken across Wales, the west country, north-west England, western parts of Scotland. Eventually
01:57we'll see some rain across these parts as we head through the afternoon. Spits and spots
02:01for the west of Wales, as well as the west country, drier skies further east. But as
02:05that rain just pushes in across the highlands of Scotland, above around 3, 400 metres expect
02:10some snow, and even at lower levels for a time on its leading edge, we could see some
02:14sleet. Temperatures then through the afternoon, struggling across much of the country, but
02:19notice towards the west country, around 10 degrees Celsius, and that's a sign of things
02:23to come on Thursday. So through Wednesday evening, the rain continues its passage up
02:28towards Scotland, a few showery bits and pieces for England and Wales, before more rain returns
02:33to Northern Ireland and western Scotland through Thursday morning. Elsewhere, not a cold night,
02:39a milder day on Thursday, always more in the way of cloud, and certainly some spells
02:44of rain. So the rain will push across the country yet again on Thursday. Here are your
02:48temperatures through the afternoon, 11, 12 degrees Celsius, leading into quite a murky
02:53night on Thursday night, and into Christmas Eve morning. Rain in the north, but then as
02:59we head through into Christmas Eve, things change yet again. So here's the milder air
03:04on Thursday, bands of cloud and rain stalling across Scotland, a ridge on Thursday night
03:10into Friday, hence the reason we could see some mist and fog. More rain then arrives
03:14on Christmas Eve, pushing ever northwards, but notice this colder air just digging down
03:18from the north, and what that means on Christmas Day, the chance of some snow showers towards
03:23the northeast of the country, and where the rain hits the cold air, there is a chance
03:27we will see some snow here, obviously we'll keep you posted here at the Met Office. Here's
03:31your summary though as we head into Christmas weekend. See you later, bye bye.
