00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. An ice and snow warning
00:04has been issued for central and northern areas of Scotland. It kicks in at midnight into
00:09Wednesday morning. Now we're expecting above around 200 metres up to 10 centimetres of
00:15snow. Add on the strength of the wind, there could be some blowing snow around, causing
00:19problems on the roads over the higher routes. But even at lower levels, we could see over
00:23the next 12 to 24 hours around 2 to 5 centimetres of snow, so slippery surfaces. And where you
00:28do see some fleeting showers overnight tonight, the risk of ice as temperatures plummet.
00:34So that's the picture across central and northern areas of Scotland. Still some showers running
00:37down this east coast here, and they'll be frequent through Tuesday evening. A few also
00:42just clipping the north of Northern Ireland, coming down towards the Irish Sea, but the
00:47bulk of England and Wales, central and southern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, seeing
00:51dry skies overnight. And also some clearer skies, so temperatures falling very quickly,
00:57dipping down to sub-zero generally, a widespread frost. And even where you see a little more
01:03cloud towards the southeast, in the countryside, temperatures are likely to fall close to freezing,
01:08if not below. So first thing then on Wednesday morning, watch out for icy surfaces where
01:13you've seen those showers. Also, a feed of those snow showers continues across the north
01:18of Scotland, so expect further accumulations here. And an increasing frequency of those
01:24showers also, just running down the eastern side of Scotland, the western fringe of Scotland,
01:28down towards Northern Ireland. A few just clipping the east coast of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire,
01:34as well as Norfolk and Suffolk. Generally though, many areas will yet again be dry with
01:39some sunshine, as temperatures struggle up to around 3 to 5 Celsius, perhaps a 6 or 7
01:44towards Wales, as well as the West Country. Now through Wednesday night, these showers
01:49across the west will become a bit more intensive, and with that, we're likely to see them turn
01:55wintry. Temperatures will fall yet again, so there is an ice warning from 6 o'clock
02:00in the evening across this eastern strip, from midnight across Northern Ireland and
02:05Wales for the risk of ice. And that snow and ice warning continues through into the early
02:11hours of Thursday morning across central and northern areas of Scotland. So another slippery
02:16start to the day, on Thursday we've seen those showers. Again, wintry showers, a mix
02:20of sleet, snow and even hail through the outlook. So the cold air stays across us through Thursday
02:27and into Friday. You can see these fronts floating around, increasing amounts of clouds
02:33and showers where you see them, but certainly the feed of those showers will always be across
02:37the north and the northeast. And by night, temperatures will really fall very quickly,
02:43so expect widespread and severe frosts through the next few days, the risk of ice where you've
02:48seen those showers, but always the chance of some brighter skies coming through. But
02:53temperatures will be well below average for this time of year, and that cold air and that
02:58cold weather extends into the weekend.
