00:00Hello there, welcome to your forecast into Christmas, your headlines for Christmas Eve.
00:05Mist and fog patches will be an issue through the morning, particularly towards more southern
00:09areas as it turns drier across the far north, and then some rain arrives across the south
00:13west which will be squally, so some strong winds associated with it.
00:17Currently through Thursday and into Friday, much of the UK is bathed in some milder conditions,
00:23away from the north and north east where we have an undercut of colder air, and slowly
00:28but surely that colder air will sink down towards more northern areas of England.
00:33So the clash between the mild and the cold, where we see the weather front, that's where
00:37we're likely to see some snow on Christmas Day, particularly perhaps over Pennine districts.
00:42Now, as we head into Thursday and Friday, there's a snow warning in force for the highlands
00:47of Scotland, and this will continue until mid-morning on Christmas Eve.
00:532-5cm are likely, above around 2-300m, above around 4-500m we are likely to see more.
01:00So some significant accumulations as this weather front just continues across these
01:04parts through the middle part of tomorrow, that's Christmas Eve.
01:08So, through Thursday evening you'll see where that weather front is, the rain, becoming
01:12confined to the central swathe of Scotland.
01:14Now further south, dry skies, some clearer skies, and we will see some mist and fog forming,
01:20particularly perhaps north of the M4 corridor, to the south, a low misty cloud, and certainly
01:25we'll see some low clouds for Northern Ireland as well.
01:29Notice the rain towards the far north there across Scotland, it may just pivot and clip
01:34the north-east of England for a time, waning as it does so into the first part of Christmas
01:39Eve morning, but with that still a mix of rain and snow as we head through the first
01:44part of the day here.
01:46Towards the north of that, one or two showers and a keen breeze, further south away some
01:51patchy rain, lots of cloud for Northern Ireland, Northern England as well, one or two spots
01:55of rain, then we run into this mist and fog which could be dense in places through the
02:00first part of the morning, so some tricky driving conditions if you are setting out
02:03and travelling through the morning.
02:06Then notice towards the south-west, stronger winds here, this band of rain will have some
02:11heavy bursts on it as it slowly pushes in across the west country through the first
02:15part of the morning, and then it will clip Wales as it heads towards the Midlands through
02:19the afternoon.
02:21The front across Scotland gradually again sinks down towards the north-east, with some
02:25drier skies for central and northern areas of Scotland, even some sunshine through the
02:29day, but it's going to feel cold in the north with that biting easterly wind.
02:33As the rain arrives across Northern Ireland, the Midlands, much of Wales, central-southern
02:38England through the afternoon.
02:41Temperatures then, still mild towards the south-west, cold though across the north as
02:45well as the east.
02:47And then that leads into quite a wet night across much of England and Wales, with this
02:52band of rain, which will be heavy in places, still further spells of clouds and rain just
02:57sinking down and meeting this other band of rain as we head through the night and into
03:02Christmas Day.
03:03To the north we'll see a fairly hard frost, and again quite a cold wind here, one or two
03:07snow showers, and then really it's where this band of rain collides with the cold air as
03:12we head through Christmas Day, we are likely to see some snow, particularly across perhaps
03:17the Peak District, Pennines for a time, and then more rain arrives across more southern
03:22areas through the day, again with a fresh wind.
03:25So wet across more southern parts through Christmas Day, breezy here, it will be quite
03:30gusty across northern England as we head through the afternoon.
03:33The chance of some snow, particularly over the higher ground here, but also some outbreaks
03:36of rain.
03:37But through the afternoon, you can see for Scotland, bright skies, it will be cold, at
03:42least though you'll see some dry weather as well as some sunshine.
03:45By this point, through the afternoon, this rain band sort of pivots and continues to
03:49affect more central and southern parts of England and Wales.
03:53There is some uncertainty with the distribution of this rain, it could be still slightly further
03:57north, but certainly will be quite a windy day, particularly in the south.
04:01Come Boxing Day, again it will be the south where we'll see clouds and also outbreaks
04:05of rain, a stronger wind here for a time, drier skies further north, brightest weather
04:09perhaps the north west of Scotland where we could see some sunshine and temperatures
04:13again will struggle in the north, it's going to be a cold day on Boxing Day after a frosty
04:18start.
04:19So here's your summary as we head into Christmas, wherever you are, have a good one.
