00:00Hello there, welcome to your morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's a breezy day today, cold towards the northeast as rain slowly pushes ever northwards.
00:10Behind this warm front, the air is a lot milder, so if you see some breaks in a cloud,
00:14you're not feeling too bad through this afternoon.
00:17However, this cold front will deliver more clouds and some outbreaks of rain
00:21before this active feature just pushing in across Ireland through the latter part of today
00:26will bring some squally rain, heavy pulses and eventually the air will turn colder from the west.
00:32So let's take a look at some detail through this morning.
00:35It's a dry and frosty start across mainland northeast Scotland.
00:39Clear skies across Shetland as well as Orkney, but this cloud is marching northwards
00:43with rain hot on its heels.
00:45So a wet start across the western side of the Central Belt, up towards Fort William,
00:49down towards Northern Ireland, some heavier pulses possible.
00:52That rain extends across northern counties of England.
00:55It's mostly patchy down towards eastern counties as well.
00:58And further west, lots of low cloud and some rain and drizzle.
01:02It's a breezy day, but the wind is coming in from a mild direction.
01:06So this is the warm front you saw on the bigger picture.
01:09That's pushing ever northwards as we head through Thursday this morning into this afternoon.
01:15So you can see this rain covering much of Scotland by around mid to late morning.
01:20And then this outer feature here is outbreaks of rain, showery rain at that,
01:24which will clear Northern Ireland slowly through the afternoon.
01:27In between, this is what we call the warm sector.
01:30Lots of low cloud, patchy rain and drizzle, but some breaks in the cloud
01:33allowing for some brighter moments through the day,
01:36allowing temperatures to rise around 13 or 14 Celsius,
01:39and a brighter end to the day also for Northern Ireland.
01:42This breeze continues as we head through Thursday evening,
01:45temperatures holding then around 11 or 12 degrees Celsius,
01:48and a bit lower towards the northeast of Scotland,
01:50where you'll see rain as we head through to evening time.
01:53But notice to the west, this is our active cold front.
01:57You can see some heavy pulses of rain extending quickly
02:00from the west and the northwest down towards the southeast.
02:04So some squally winds, damaging gusts possible
02:07as it clears down towards the southeast through the early hours of Friday morning.
02:11And then things brighten up, but also cool down.
02:14So we hang on to temperatures around 8 or 9 to start the day on Friday
02:17towards the southeast, but also some outbreaks of rain.
02:20But that will swiftly clear.
02:23Showers elsewhere, and these showers will become frequent and heavy
02:26through the day across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
02:29with the risk of some thunder.
02:31A lighter breeze initially across England and Wales,
02:34and some sunshine coming through, but the winds picking up in the west
02:37and eventually we'll see some coastal gales here.
02:40More cloud, brighter skies to end the day further south and east.
02:43I'll see you later.
