00:00Hello there, welcome to your forecast for Wednesday. Here are your headlines.
00:04Now Wednesday's looking like the best day of the week weather-wise. Things turn
00:08quieter, more in the way of sunshine as we lose the gales towards the north-east
00:13but still quite an icy and snowy start across the Highlands, central and
00:17northern parts of Scotland. Now we'll talk about the warning zones in a moment
00:21that's the yellow area towards the north-east but you can see across much
00:24of the country through Wednesday we're bathed in blues, cold air, eventually a
00:29ridge of high pressure extends across so we'll see a fairly hard frost into
00:33Thursday morning before milder air moves in from the Atlantic with a band of
00:38clouds and rain and as the rain encounters the colder air it will turn
00:42to snow. Colder behind as well so snow showers likely through Friday. For the
00:48time being weather warnings enforced through Tuesday into Wednesday. Gales
00:52towards the far north-east, that warning expires at midnight and then a snow and
00:56ice warning, winds driving in those snow showers across central northern areas of
01:00Scotland. Above around 100 metres we'll see accumulations of that snow but even
01:05at lower levels some slushy deposits and as temperatures plummet we'll see ice
01:10form. So it's a cold night, it's a clear one across many parts, strong winds still
01:15across the north and the east and a breeze coming in across the northwest
01:19there delivering showers to Northern Ireland, northwest England as well as
01:22Wales and over Snowdonia yes they will fall as snow. So many areas seeing starry
01:28skies overnight, towns and cities temperatures just about holding up but
01:32we will see sub-zero across the countryside so cold start to the day
01:36come Wednesday morning and watch out for some icy stretches and untreated roads
01:40certainly that will be the case with lying snow across central and northern
01:44areas of Scotland. Still that strong wind just clipping the eastern side of
01:48Scotland, those showers across the north as well as the northeast, we lose the
01:51intensity of those showers through the day and then we run into brighter
01:55weather across southern Scotland, much of England and Wales, still some showers
01:58running down towards the Isle of Man, the far north of Wales, northwest England
02:02certainly the Cheshire Gap and one or two just perhaps reaching the far north
02:06coast of Devon and Cornwall but they will be few and far between, mostly just
02:10clouded drifting across the sky. For much of the country though it's a bright day.
02:14Now a significant wind chill particularly along the east coast of
02:18Scotland and England and here we could see one or two showers through the day
02:22certainly showers remain the case across the far north of Scotland. Elsewhere some
02:27dry skies, some brighter weather, not a bad day to be outside. Stepping outside
02:31though do wrap up warm, it is a bit of a cold one after a frosty start but at
02:35least though you'll see the Sun and make the most of it. Temperatures then around
02:40five to seven eight degrees Celsius. So that's the picture on Wednesday
02:44afternoon and yes the Sun will be out for many places. However as we head
02:50through Wednesday evening with the clearest skies and a lighter breeze we'll
02:55see temperatures fall very quickly so expect a widespread frost. Temperatures
03:00plummeting see values in across England and Wales minus three minus four
03:04Celsius. Snowfields of Scotland down to around minus ten Celsius and here's that
03:09band of cloud and rain I was talking about pushing across Northern Ireland
03:13through the early hours of the morning. Some quite moderate bursts to come and a
03:16stronger wind as well and as that rain just pushes across the Highlands has
03:20gone even at lower levels as well as Wales, North West England. Yes expect some
03:24transient snow but eventually the rain will win. We'll see some mild air just for
03:29a time before things turn cold again. There were snow warnings in force on
03:33Friday for that colder air. Blustery showers check out the Met Office website
03:37and we'll keep you posted.
