00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest update from the Met Office. Rather a lot of cloud
00:04across northern and western UK during the rest of Wednesday. Warm sunny spells elsewhere
00:10and a ridge of high pressure still keeping things generally settled for much of the country.
00:15However, these weather fronts are arriving into the north and the west and they contain
00:20a lot of humidity, a lot of cloud, some outbreaks of rain. The most persistent rain during the
00:25rest of the day expected for western and northern Scotland. The heaviest rain in the
00:30far north of Scotland tending to ease away later in the afternoon. Elsewhere it's low
00:34cloud, it's bits and pieces of light rain and drizzle, mainly western hills. The odd
00:39shower coming into the south west and some coastal mist and fog. But for central and
00:44eastern areas, good spells of sunshine, especially in the east of England where temperatures
00:49will reach 26 Celsius. A good fern effect where the winds go over the higher ground
00:54into northern Scotland and warm up as they travel over the higher ground, well that could
00:59lead to 23 Celsius or so for northern Scotland and northern Ireland. Now into the evening,
01:04the low cloud in the west tends to creep along coastal areas and make some inroads further
01:09east at times. In the east it stays largely clear and for northeast Scotland. But elsewhere
01:15a gloomy night to come, a lot of that low cloud, mist, patchy drizzle and some coastal
01:21fog. So grey skies for many as we start off Thursday and that means for many northern
01:27and western areas, chances of seeing the eclipse, or the partial eclipse that is, and you'd
01:32need to see it safely of course, not with the naked eye, well the chance is quite low
01:37in the west but a better chance further east. And generally by the afternoon the cloud lifts
01:43and breaks, there'll be some sunshine developing. A few showers breaking out, some sharp showers
01:47across central areas and some more persistent rain into the northwest of Scotland. Away
01:52from the showers, away from the rain, sunny spells and highs of 27 Celsius in the southeast.
01:58Into Thursday evening and we keep clear spells across central and eastern areas but elsewhere
02:04we continue to see a lot of low cloud and further sea fog patches in places. So a gloomy
02:10couple of days in places but then it brightens up for many of us heading into the weekend
02:16with plenty of sunshine by Saturday. Follow us on social media and we'll keep you updated.
02:20As always, bye bye.
