00:00Hello. A subtle change in wind direction over the next few days will lead to, in some places,
00:06a dramatic rise in temperatures, but also an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms
00:11for some, but not for all. Thursday, however, is very similar to recent days and weeks.
00:17We've got the low cloud persisting across eastern coasts, along with a cold North Sea
00:21wind. We've got a thickening medium-level cloud pushing into the southwest of England,
00:27first signs of a change on the way, and we've got rising temperatures in the west. High
00:32teens, low twenties for many central and western parts, but across southwest England, central
00:37southern England, mid-twenties are possible. But it's going to stay cold on that North
00:42Sea coast, all the way from Orkney into Aberdeenshire, eastern England, mid-teens more likely, or
00:49even in some places, again, 12 or 13 Celsius. And the low cloud in the east will creep its
00:55way back westwards on Thursday evening once again, to become fairly extensive by the end
01:00of the night. But here's that change towards the southwest. The medium-level cloud thickens.
01:07These are fairly high-based showers that will start to arrive, so a few light showers expected
01:13at times, on and off, through Cornwall overnight. And look at the temperatures towards the southwest.
01:1714 Celsius, a milder night to come compared with recent nights. The humidity level is
01:24rising. Elsewhere, actually, it's a cold night, especially for central and western
01:29Scotland, with some sheltered spots under clear skies. Temperatures approaching zero,
01:34so actually we're talking about the increased heat over the next few days, but it's a chilly
01:38start for Friday across parts of Scotland, and for parts of Northern Ireland and northwest
01:43England as well. Nevertheless, we will see the humidity continue to rise from the southwest
01:49because of this area of low pressure. It doesn't quite get into the UK over the next few days,
01:53but it does influence the wind direction. It introduces a more southerly component.
01:58That then leads to higher humidity, higher temperatures, and an increased chance of showers
02:03and indeed thunderstorms into the weekend. That activity arriving from the southwest.
02:10So we'll start off Friday with the change taking place there towards the southwest.
02:15Some light showers on and off through the day for parts of Cornwall, perhaps into western
02:18parts of Devon as well, and plenty of medium-level cloud in the southwest as well, making for
02:23some pretty cloudscapes. Meanwhile, the low cloud across central areas retreats back to
02:28the North Sea coast. It stays cool on the coast, but elsewhere actually a warm or even
02:34very warm day to come. The highest temperatures expected towards central, southern and southwest
02:38England, 26, 27 Celsius possible. That's the peak of the heat in the southwest, whilst
02:45as we go into Saturday, watch the dramatic change in temperature for central and eastern
02:52parts. Those temperatures shoot up on Saturday as winds change direction, and for parts of
02:58Cambridgeshire, London into the Midlands, perhaps northwest England, 29, even 30 or
03:0431 Celsius possible. A really significant change for the likes of North Norfolk, where
03:11we're going from 12 or 13 degrees earlier in the week to the high 20s, even 30 Celsius
03:17at the start of this weekend. So, a real spike in temperatures. Meanwhile, northeast
03:22England, eastern Scotland still a bit cooler because of the change in wind direction, still
03:27bringing some North Sea air in here. But for northern and western Scotland, a warmer day
03:32to come, mid-20s, northern Ireland, likewise northwest England, slightly cooler towards
03:36the southwest, because here we've got thicker cloud. And in between, where we've got temperatures
03:41rising, we've got the humidity rising as well. There is that risk on Saturday of some
03:46lively showers and even some thunderstorms happening. So, a yellow thunderstorm warning
03:52has been issued for this general area, Wales, into central parts of England. Now, it doesn't
03:57mean that outside of that area we won't see showers or thunderstorms, neither does it
04:00mean that within this area thunderstorms are guaranteed. What it means is, in this area,
04:05there's the highest risk of impacts from hit and miss thunderstorms, with the risk of torrential
04:11rain and hail, as well as some frequent lightning. So, that's the highest risk area from impacts
04:18and those thunderstorms will be hit and miss. But where they do occur, could cause some
04:22issues in one or two places. Of course, we'll keep you updated over the next few days and
04:26you can find those updates on social media. But for now, that's all from me. Bye-bye.
