08 April - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hello again. If you'd like it to feel a bit more like April again, fear not. Warmer weather
00:05is on the way and actually at times over the next few days, despite the chill, it will
00:09feel pleasant enough in the sunshine because this area of low pressure is moving away.
00:13That means the isobars are opening out. That means the strongest of the winds are easing.
00:17It's still going to be fairly blustery as we end Thursday. Still a few showers around
00:21but increasingly those showers we can find to Northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, parts
00:25of Northern England and North Wales. Clear spells elsewhere. And with those showers
00:29containing some wintriness, mainly rain, hail, sleet at lower levels, snow over the Scottish
00:34mountains a couple of centimetres above 150 metres, well there will be a few icy patches
00:38first thing in the north of Scotland and a fairly widespread frost where we get clear
00:42spells elsewhere. Temperatures dipping to around zero, if not a touch below in sheltered
00:48spots. But in the far south, enough cloud rolls in through the night to avoid a frost.
00:54A few degrees Celsius there in Plymouth and a damp start to the day for the south coast
00:58potentially. Now this rain, most of it runs along the channel but it looks like some of
01:03it will hang about near that south coast through much of the day, only clearing quite late
01:07on in the afternoon. Once it does clear, sunny spells follow and there will be further showers
01:12breaking out so it's a bright and breezy day once again with those wintry showers in places.
01:18Rain, hail, sleet at lower levels, snow over hills and brusque wind making it feel cold
01:23even if it's not quite as windy as Thursday. Eleven or twelve Celsius in the south, seven
01:28to nine further north, knock off a few degrees for the feels like temperature. Into Friday
01:34evening and the showers continue for a time before once again becoming confined to coastal
01:40areas, not many inland, clear spells then fairly widely and winds easing out. As a result,
01:46a widespread frost once again to wake up to for the weekend. But again, despite the chill,
01:53it's a bright start. You can see how much sunshine there is on the map, for many places
01:57beautiful blue skies to wake up to on Saturday and effectively it stays that way through
02:03much of the day. I think the best of the sunshine will remain in the south, a bit more cloud
02:07builds further north and a few more showers will develop in places. Not as many as Thursday
02:13and Friday and again it will be northern Scotland that bear the brunt of some of these wintry
02:19and lively showers and it will stay cold with the strongest of the winds in the far north
02:24knocking a few degrees off those temperatures. Further south, lighter winds, a bit of sunshine
02:29at this time of year, it's strong of course so it's going to feel quite pleasant I think
02:33even if on the thermometer temperatures remain below average. Then Saturday night, skies
02:40clear fairly widely once again and a frost follows once again for the start of Sunday.
02:46But Sunday promises a lot more dry and bright weather for the vast majority, turning cloudier
02:51in the west but also turning milder.
