00:00Hello. Scenes like this across southern parts of England and South Wales as we woke up on
00:07Wednesday. Not everywhere saw snow. In some parts of the far south and south west it was
00:12rain but the snow was fairly extensive across some southern counties of England and Wales
00:17as this shows. This is the radar imagery with the rain and snow highlighted in the different
00:23colours here. Snow showers continuing over the last 24 hours across northern Scotland
00:27but here's the band of precipitation across the south and during the early hours of Wednesday
00:31fairly extensive snow across southern parts but the far south and south west it was rain
00:36and the milder air has never been that far away from the far south west. It's now pushing
00:41back north albeit slowly helping to turn a lot of this precipitation on the southern
00:46flank of it back to rain and so I think that for the rest of Wednesday we're going to see
00:51some heavy rain at times for south west England into the far south of England as well but
00:56continued outbreaks of sleet and snow across parts of Wales into the Midlands as well.
01:02I don't think there'll be huge accumulations during Wednesday afternoon, during the daytime
01:06at least. It'll be quite wet snow but over the hills certainly there'll be further a
01:11few centimetres accumulating. For northern England, northern Ireland, Scotland as well.
01:17Largely dry and bright, plenty of sunshine for Scotland and feeling pleasant with light
01:20winds here despite having started the day in one or two spots with minus 15 Celsius.
01:27Still one or two showers coming into the north of Scotland, some of these showers accumulating
01:31a centimetre or two, mainly over higher ground and it's going to stay cold in the north,
01:36two to four Celsius at best but I think over any higher parts where we've got snow cover,
01:41temperatures staying below freezing and likewise low single figures across this central part
01:45of England and Wales where we've got the snow continuing in places but much milder
01:50air already into the far south west and outbreaks of rain will continue here into Wednesday
01:55evening. However, the focus for snow is shifting north and it's across central Wales into the
02:00Midlands, east Anglia as well where there'll be further outbreaks of snow, perhaps bringing
02:04some disruption to the rush hour in places, two to five centimetres and in one or two
02:08spots where we've got some heavier snow, five to ten centimetres. So significant disruption
02:14possible through the central swathes during the Wednesday evening rush hour but then it
02:18peters out overnight, many places turning drier into Wednesday nights. I think for Scotland,
02:24Northern Ireland, we keep the clear skies, further snow accumulating over the far north
02:28of Scotland, a few centimetres or so but where we've got the clear skies, temperatures again
02:34where we've got snow cover, 10 to 15 degrees below freezing. Much milder though for the
02:39far south west, look at the temperature contrast, five degrees there, eight degrees for the
02:44Channel Islands but below freezing across much of the rest of the UK and likely to wake
02:49up to some snow there, covering parts of Wales, especially over hills as well as the Midlands.
02:56However, through Thursday, the mild air makes further progress north and this occluded front
03:02is likely to bring some significantly disruptive snow to parts of North Wales, the North Midlands,
03:09Northern England and parts of Northern Ireland. So it's across the central part of the UK
03:13where the focus turns for Thursday. In the south, it's heavy rain showers and a gusty
03:19wind pushing into South Wales as well but North Wales, into the North Midlands, Northern
03:24England as well as Northern Ireland, increasingly likely to see spells of rain at the very lowest
03:30layers and around coasts. So for Manchester, Liverpool, more likely to be rain for example
03:36and below 100 metres, generally patchy or no snow I suspect but above 100 metres, that's
03:43where that risk of significant disruption exists because through Thursday and into
03:48Friday, there's the risk of widely 10 to 15 centimetres of snow and that includes places
03:53like Leeds and Bradford for example. Trans-Pennine routes could see even higher risk totals,
03:5920 to 40 centimetres for example and it's in this warning area with that risk area.
04:05But not everywhere we'll see snow in that warning area at the very lowest levels around
04:10coasts, more likely to be a messy mixture of rain and sleet. And it's going to be feeling
04:16cold whether you've got the rain, sleet or snow, 3 to 0 degrees across central parts
04:21of the UK. Another cold but bright day for the north of Scotland but wet and windy in
04:27the far south, albeit with much milder air at this stage, 11 or 12 degrees for the likes
04:33of Cornwall. So plenty going on for the next few days, potential for more snow disruption
04:38but that risk of disruption moves north progressively during Wednesday, Thursday and into Friday.
