00:00Hello, it may have been a dull and damp start to the day in the south but bright
00:05skies are on their way across England, Wales and some brightness in the skies
00:09for Scotland and Northern Ireland albeit with a stronger breeze here and
00:14plenty of showers in the north of Scotland. We've also got cold air here
00:18and those showers are falling as snow over 400 metres for Northern Scotland
00:22and 150 metres for Shetland accompanied by a wind that's gusting 50 to 60 miles
00:27an hour. Lighter winds further south and with the sunny skies feeling pleasant
00:31enough once that early cloud clears away. 10 Celsius, 11 Celsius even possible in
00:36the far south and southwest, 7 to 8 further north. Into the evening we'll see
00:42the cloud in the north thicken. The showers in the northeast tend to ease
00:46and the wind does as well but next bout of rain comes into the far northwest
00:53and mostly this is light and patchy but some persistence to it as it moves into
00:57the Northwest Highlands, some drizzly stuff for Northern Ireland, the rest of
01:00Western Scotland and eventually parts of the Irish Sea coast. With the cloudy
01:04skies in the north here it's going to be largely frost free, temperatures in the
01:09mid-single figures but a widespread frost for southern parts of Wales, the
01:13Midlands, East Anglia and the south and in some spots prone locations like RAF
01:19Bentham for example temperatures dipping to minus 7 Celsius. So another very cold
01:25start to the day in the far south. Here we've got an area of high pressure
01:29stubbornly persisting across Europe whilst the isobars are tighter further
01:34north in fact they tighten together further on Friday and we'll see these
01:38weather fronts move in to the north of Scotland bringing cloud and some
01:41outbreaks of rain but all in all we've got this milder airflow setting up
01:46during Friday and into the weekend from the west southwest. That milder flow will
01:51also bring thicker clouds so although it's a bright start in the south we will
01:55also see some higher medium cloud rifting southwards through the day, the
01:59best of any sunshine clinging on to the far southeast and as the cloud thickens
02:03across Wales, Northwest England some drizzle likely over the hills and coasts
02:07but the most persistent rain will be across Western Scotland especially the
02:10West Highlands where it will be heavy at times. Some breaks on the other side of
02:14the mountains for the northeast of Scotland and a blustery breeze coming in
02:19from the west southwest that will be bouncing off the hills at the Pennines
02:23and the Scottish Mountains so gusty conditions could disrupt travel in places
02:28but it's a mild breeze 11 12 Celsius possible especially in the north and
02:33northeast 9 Celsius further south although with cloudier skies perhaps
02:38not feeling quite as pleasant as Thursday. Into the evening we'll see the
02:44thicker cloud tend to hang around but you'll notice some thinning of the cloud
02:49at times across central and southern parts of the UK and where that happens
02:52with lighter winds in the south we'll see a touch of frost in places as we
02:57start the weekend so we're not entirely saying goodbye to the frosts but they'll
03:01become a bit more patchy across southern parts of the UK. In the north it is going
03:06to be a mild weekend but with a lot of cloud at times and some rain in the
03:10northwest.
