00:00Hello again and welcome to the latest forecast from the Met Office. A brighter day to come
00:05for southern parts of the UK compared to recent days. That is once any remaining cloud and
00:10drizzle has cleared away. This is the precipitation type radar from earlier in the day. The blue
00:15is the rain clearing from the south coast there. Whilst wintry showers, snow, sleet,
00:21hail affect Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England and they'll continue into the afternoon
00:26wrapped around an area of low pressure. The snow level close to that low pressure rising
00:31a little, so mainly above 400 metres for the Highlands and Grampians by the afternoon.
00:35It is persistent here and some rain and sleet at lower levels. The showers continue to feed
00:40into Northern Ireland, North West England, parts of Wales as well. But for the south
00:44and south east, brighter skies once the remaining cloud and drizzle has finally cleared. Eight
00:50or nine Celsius in the south, that's lower compared to recent days and certainly feeling
00:55cold in that strong wind that we've got across northern parts of the country into North Wales,
00:59Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland brisk wind. But the strongest wind gusts,
01:0450-60mph eastern and south east Scotland through the central lowlands as well. And those strong
01:10winds transfer down the east coast through the evening and into the overnight period.
01:16And so for eastern England, exposed coasts, risk of gales and some further showers to
01:22come and also the wind feeding some further showers into northern and western Scotland,
01:27parts of Wales, Northern Ireland perhaps. Away from those coasts though, inland, winds
01:31easing and under clear skies, widespread frost. Temperatures in towns and cities, minus one
01:37to minus three Celsius. In the countryside, as low as minus five. And for some snow covered
01:43parts of Scotland, could get minus ten Celsius and that's approaching the lowest temperature
01:49of the season so far. So a cold start to Friday but a bright start for many. Plenty
01:55of sunshine first thing if you're up early enough. You could spot Venus in the night
02:00sky, that's the reasonably good viewing conditions for that. Plenty of sunshine then through
02:05the morning, temperatures gradually recovering, we keep the sunny spells in the east. Cloud
02:10thickening further west, one or two showers across western parts of the country once again
02:14but they tend to fade by the end of the afternoon. So for the vast majority through daylight
02:19hours, it's dry, there'll be plenty of bright skies and it's going to be feeling quite cold,
02:25five, six, seven Celsius in places. But by the end of the afternoon, the cloud is picking
02:32up in the northwest, the wind is picking up as well and we're going to see outbreaks of
02:38rain move into Northern Ireland, western Scotland during Friday evening. And as that bumps into
02:43the colder air, further hills no expected above two, three hundred metres or so. And
02:49that wet and windy weather that will turn up in the northwest by the end of the day
02:52on Friday, well that sets the theme for the weekend because we're going to see increasingly
02:57wet and windy weather affecting initially northwestern areas on Saturday morning at
03:03drier, brighter start elsewhere before that unsettled theme spreads across the country
03:09by Sunday. We'll have much more on that through our various social media channels. But for now, bye bye.
