00:00Hello, and welcome to the latest national weather forecast from the Met Office. It's
00:05been a wet and windy day across some western and north-western parts of the UK. The wind
00:09and rain associated with this slow-moving weather front, but as it pushes into central
00:15areas it's weakening. The isobars are becoming more spaced out, so the wind and rain tending
00:20to ease. However, cold air is following the front and so some snow for Scotland above
00:25around 400 metres for a time through the evening and overnight. Otherwise, you can see the
00:29front really petering out, staying damp for Scotland, parts of northern England, Wales
00:33and the south-west. But ahead of the front, mild, breezy and frost-free, seven to nine
00:38Celsius there for central and eastern England. Meanwhile, northern Ireland, western Scotland
00:43behind the front, subject to the colder air. And so a touch of frost in places here, a
00:48chilly start, albeit with brighter skies compared to the same time on Wednesday. And then we
00:54see the front really lingering across central parts of the country. That means more cloud
00:59to come and some outbreaks of mainly light rain for Scotland, northern England as well,
01:03especially before the middle of the afternoon. And brighter skies for a time for the southern
01:08half of the UK, but further cloud and showers returning here by the end of the afternoon,
01:13you can see, affecting mainly south Wales into the south-west. Otherwise, there will
01:17be some sunshine either side of the front and you can see the mild air remains there
01:22in the south-east, 14 Celsius, whilst it's closer to average, I think, further north
01:27and west, 9 to 12 degrees. The wind, having eased for a time, picks up once again on
01:33Thursday night ahead of the next weather front, which is moving in. These features are all
01:38moving in and bumping into high pressure, which sits to the east of the UK at the moment.
01:42They're tending to slow down, they're tending to stall. And this one certainly is a slow
01:46moving feature. And ahead of it, increasingly cloudy skies, increased shower activity through
01:51the night and an increased wind. So certainly frost-free as we start off Friday, widespread
01:56cloud, some showers to come as well, but more persistent rain as the front pivots
02:01and pushes up from the south-west during Friday morning into the south-west and then across
02:06central parts of the country. But again, as that front stalls and weakens, it turns into
02:11a showery feature, so that for most, Friday is looking like a mixture of bright spells
02:16and showers. Blustery wind, gales for exposed western coasts as well as the far north. Brighter
02:22skies actually here for Shetland and Orkney throughout Friday, but otherwise for many
02:27it's just a changeable day with rain on and off and that keen breeze. Less mild as well,
02:3210 to 12 Celsius in most places. Now into the weekend and we'll see further spells of
02:38rain pushing in from the west, but at least some drier and brighter weather is expected
02:42for a time in many places on Saturday before low pressure brings wind and rain on Saturday
02:48night.
