00:00Hello again and welcome to the latest national weather from the Met Office. It was a gloomy
00:05start to the day in places with some fog here and there and that fog now lifting but actually
00:12there will be a lot more cloud across the UK compared to recent days, compared to the
00:16last week or so and that cloud giving a few showers for southern Scotland, parts of northern
00:20England, parts of Northern Ireland and one or two showers possible as the cloud thickens
00:25from the south into southern counties of England during the afternoon. However there will still
00:29be some warm sunshine around, still temperatures well above average for the time of year, 15-16
00:34Celsius there for central areas, for central belt, parts of Northern Ireland 14 or 15 degrees.
00:41Colder air is on the way though and you can see a much cooler picture there for Shetland
00:47with a northerly wind but more on that in a moment. Now for the rest of the UK, areas
00:52of low cloud, mist and fog creep back in again overnight, especially for central and eastern
00:58parts of England. There will be some clear spells around but in the far south an area
01:03of showers or longer spells of rain moves up from the channel and temperatures on the
01:07whole staying up above freezing. A gloomy start then for many, you can see the extensive
01:13low cloud, mist and fog across parts of England into east Wales, parts of Scotland as well.
01:18The showers on the English Channel coast tend to fade away into the afternoon but showers
01:24will bubble up just about anywhere else and it will feel cooler with a lot more cloud
01:28in the sky although the low cloud, mist and fog will on the whole tend to lift into the
01:34afternoon and 11-14 Celsius possible in the south. But look at the temperature change
01:40there, 4 degrees for Lerwick as an area of rain pushes south across central Scotland
01:47and actually as cold air digs in you can see some hill snow with that rain as it moves
01:51through the Grampians and then the colder air brings with it some wintry showers. Hail
01:57and snow possible there for the far north of the mainland of Scotland and for the Northern
02:01Isles. Further south any showers fade away through the evening but really the cold front
02:07that's sinking south, that's going to bring a marked change for the second half of the
02:11weekend. Much colder air coming all the way from the Arctic, you can see coming around
02:16the side of this air at high pressure and bringing a significant drop in temperatures
02:21and bringing in some places snow. More on that in the Met Office Week Ahead forecast
02:27which of course you can find on our YouTube channel a little bit later on Monday. For
02:31now that's all for me, bye bye.
