03 February - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Good morning. A mild weekend for the first weekend of February. A fairly cloudy one,
00:05often quite windy as well, though not as gusty as it was during Friday. With the
00:11mild and cloudy conditions, temperatures starting off at 9 or 10 Celsius for
00:16many of us. But it also is starting off pretty drab across the south, certainly
00:21much of Wales, southwest England covered in clouds, some drizzly rain here and
00:24there. Brighter skies for northern England, Northern Ireland, southern and
00:28eastern Scotland, but plenty of showers packing in across the Highlands and the
00:32Western Isles. They'll continue to come in on a fairly stiff wind throughout the
00:36day. The breeze picking up at times further south, bringing in further cloud
00:40rain in West Wales, but some breaks to the east of the hills here, maybe over
00:44the Midlands. Much of southeast England will be dry. Some outbreaks of rain just
00:48trickling back up towards Yorkshire and Lancashire come the afternoon.
00:52Temperature-wise, well, we've got the mild air in place across the south, so 13
00:58maybe even 14 Celsius if it does brighten up. Further north, 8, 9, 10
01:02Celsius, still above average for the time of year. As we go through this evening,
01:06we'll start to see some of that rain just trickling back further south into
01:10parts of south Wales, southwest England. Again, nothing too heavy, but a bit damp
01:14and murky here. Further showers packing in across Scotland through the night as
01:18well, and then notice more rain just tracking back towards Northern Ireland
01:22as we head towards tomorrow morning. That is a warm front which is spreading back
01:27the milder air across the UK. So again, it's going to be a mild night in the
01:31south, double digits in some places. There's that warm front, and as we go
01:35through tomorrow, it will continue to track northwards, taking the warmer air
01:39back with it and pushing that further north. High pressure still dominating
01:43across the south, but this weather front will be a focus for cloud and some
01:47outbreaks of rain as well as pushing that milder air back north, even into
01:52Scotland by the end of the day. But there's that weather front in terms of
01:55cloud and rain, a damp start for Northern Ireland, turning soggy too, perhaps across
02:00parts of western Scotland, and some outbreaks of rain crossing through
02:03northern England during Sunday. Rain at times over the hills of Wales, but again,
02:08eastern parts of Wales, much of the Midlands, southern England, probably just
02:12dry and drab with a lot of cloud around, but getting quite breezy again, but those
02:17winds bringing in that milder air behind that weather front, and so temperatures
02:21again, widely in double figures, and in parts of the south we could see those
02:24temperatures into the teens. The rain could start to build up though in
02:27western Scotland, and that may cause a few issues. There is a Met Office yellow
02:31warning in place here for Sunday night and through into Monday. For more details
