00:00Welcome to your Friday afternoon weather updates from the Met Office.
00:04It's very mild out there and for some, very gusty as well.
00:08The bigger picture shows low pressure heading its way across Iceland,
00:12a big area of high pressure dominating to the south.
00:14We're kind of between the two.
00:15And in here, we call this a warm sector between the warm and the cold front.
00:20We've got some very mild air sitting across the UK.
00:23But the ITAR bars are pretty closely packed as well.
00:26And they're bouncing over the hills, producing some strong gusts to the lee of the hill.
00:31So very blustery over parts of northern England, southeast Scotland,
00:35also pretty windy across northwestern Scotland.
00:37Where that weather front is producing outbreaks of rain,
00:39which is spreading into Northern Ireland as well.
00:41So very damp here this afternoon.
00:44Some rain at times over the hills and mountains of Wales and western England,
00:48but most of England and Wales dry.
00:50And it's in the west with these brisk west-southwesterly winds that we see a few breaks
00:55developing in the cloud and a bit of sunshine could poke through.
00:59And with a bit of sunshine, because we're in the mild air,
01:02temperatures could easily get up to 13, 14, maybe even 15 Celsius,
01:06even where it's cloudy, temperatures of 11 or 12 above average for the first part of February.
01:13Now, as you go through this evening, we'll continue to see outbreaks of rain trickling south
01:17across Northern Ireland into parts of northwest England and southern Scotland.
01:21Heavy showers will zip in on a brisk wind over northern Scotland.
01:25Much of the south will stay dry and cloudy and will stay in the mild air here as well.
01:30So temperatures across much of England and Wales, certainly in urban areas,
01:34could well stay in double figures.
01:35It will start to turn a little colder further north,
01:37but even here still reasonably mild for the early part of February.
01:42Saturday morning then sees some sunshine for southern Scotland, eastern Scotland,
01:46sunshine and showers for western Scotland.
01:48Quite a lot of cloud for England and Wales, particularly in the west.
01:51Outbreaks of rain could turn out to be quite a damp day across a good chunk of Wales.
01:55Some of that rain at times may just push towards the Midlands, perhaps even into East Anglia.
02:00But much of northern England will stay dry and bright with some sunshine
02:04and much of the south will stay dry but drab with thick cloud and we'll still have the mild air in here.
02:11So quite a contrast up and down the land.
02:13Colder air across Scotland with that brisk wind.
02:15Eight or nine Celsius will feel colder than that.
02:18But in the south, again, we could see some places getting into the teens.
02:23By the time we get to Saturday evening, that rain may just start to edge back a little further north.
02:29There'll still be plenty of showers packing into western parts of Scotland.
02:32May see some more rain and drizzle just trickling into the southwest as well.
02:36It's a bit of uncertainty about the position of this line of rain.
02:38It's all tied in with this front, which pushes back further north as we go through Sunday
02:44and will reintroduce the milder air pushing back north into Northern Ireland, Northern England
02:50and by the end of Sunday, actually, across most of Scotland as well.
02:53So it will be turning warmer once more as the warmer air pushes in.
02:56But that weather front will also bring a return of rain back to Northern Ireland on Sunday
03:00into northwest England and much of Scotland.
03:03The rain could build up quite a bit through Sunday night and into Monday.
03:07Something we're keeping a close eye on.
03:09Further south, there'll be some patchy rain over the hills.
03:11But again, much of southern England, East Anglia will just stay dry and cloudy.
03:16The winds will start to pick up once more on Sunday, too.
03:19So it could get quite blustery.
03:21Again, pretty mild for the majority, double digits across the board.
03:25Some signs of things turning a little colder, particularly across the north, as we go through next week.
03:30So do keep up to date with the forecast.
